Now the NCAA says the home plate umpire is the one who over-ruled. WTF??
I would have LOST it if I was the Cal Irvine coach.
For thos that didn't see it--close play at first--wide throw--1B umpire ruled he held on with his toe..Crowd went nuts in WSU and the home umpire came in and changed the call

Replays show he was out...runner also was on base--so with all this going on home ump had to be 90 feet away

1b umpire had to have asked for help. It can't be overruled by the plate umpire without him asking.

Nope--he clearly called him out--turned his back to the play and the Shocker manager came over to argue--then they changed it

They can change it if the 1b umpire asks the plate umpire for help. Sounds like he did.

You will have to ask someone else who watched the game--but even the announcers said there was no precedence for this.

2 out hit for WSU--they tie and can now win--BS!!!

It did not appear that the 1st base ump asked for help. They just said that over rules aren't that uncommon in college baseball.

Just saw the replay.....I think the first base umpire had it correct the first time...he was out.

Should not have been overruled, imo.

I didn't see it, so it's hard for me to say. One thing I do know is that announcers don't know shit about the rules or about umpiring.

He asked for help.

That being said, how the hell does the HP umpire overrule unless he is 100% certain ... and replays showed that the guy was actually out, so he couldn't have been 100% certain.

If the plate umpire overruled him on his own, then he is way in the wrong. That should never happen in a little league game, let alone the super regionals. Many of these umpires are horseshit, but that's something that should never happen.
