After 40 games I think it is beginning to be safe to say "The roar has been restored!!" BEST RECORD IN BASEBALL!!! Living in Michigan my whole life I have seen the Tigers fall down a few levels the last decade. It is really sad cosidering how they where such a solid and proud franchise in the 80's when I was growing up.

This would be huge for Detroit to have it's baseball team back on the map. I hope they can at least make a run at the playoffs.

I'm very happy for this franchise....very good to see , wasn't long ago the were absolutely horrible...

And remember when Pudge signed, everyone thought he was nuts 'WTF is he doing, they will never turn it around fast enough'

i have to admit, i ripped leyland in these forums. didn't have a high opinion of him. i just felt that if he was so good, then why couldn't he make at least some progress during the last yrs of his pitt tenure, no matter what the financial picture was. then he quits in colorado.

we'll see. the season is still young. the tigers do look good paper now, though. need guillen & mags to stay healthy. still not sold on todd jones. how can anyone give him big $$. i don't care what he did last yr.

The starters have been lights out, all five of them!

Maroth 5-2 2.18
Verlander 5-3 3.18
Roger 6-2 3.23
Robertson 4-2 3.50
Bonderman 4-2 3.74

That is very impressive, and they have used all 5 evenly (not skipping over the #5)

I ould see Fernado Rodney becoming the closer eventually.

5 starters on pace for 16 + wins each...I would be shocked to see 5 guys with 12 + wins even

no i'm not joe falls, the detroit writer. i do know of him. i enjoyed him as a teenager, reading him in the sporting news. the name i picked is kind of a personal thing. too personal; i wish i could change my username, but according to the forum rules, it says i can't. if a moderator could change it to JoeFalls, though, i'd appreciate it. so it's JoeFalls (without the space).

another joe falls was the 1st commissioner of the american football league. he was a true war hero in the big one. a real man & great american.

interesting stat I read at BaseballProspectus.com. The Tigers have the lowest batting average in balls in play for there oppenent in almost 20 years. Meaning Tiger opponennts are making contact but not getting on base. This stat ,according to these guys, kind of tells you have if some of the pitchers have been "lucking out" and catching breaks meaning the Tiger starters may come back down to earth.

Perfect example, last nite verlander and jones team up for a shoutout and don't strikeout ONE hitter.

As for Joe Falls(the Detroit sports writer). He passed away around 2 years ago.

Well I disagree , I think it means their pitchers are throwing strikes , coming right after hitters and they're playing solid defense...that stat is the mark of a very good team.

Will they win 108 games, I seriously doubt it, but they should be around all year long, with that pitching and solid defense.

I have the book. It is considered a "regression to the mean" stat.

It means nothing. In CY YOUNG years pitchers numbers have been no better in this stat than a middle of the road starter. This is not my anaylsis but the guys at the proscpectus. They say it tells if a pitcher is getting breaks or not and some years the number can differ for pitchers very extreme from one year to the next with not much change in their ERA,etc...

I do agree with the whole good defense thing but this stat is more about pitchers "luck"

Of course thre is luck involved...Pudge Rodriguez handling the pitching staff, coupled with these young guys getting more experience has a lot to do with it.

If they end up .500 then we can say it was all about luck...I think they're going to be around though....I thought they would be better, and maybe another year away.

Are the fans backing this team, I know Detroit has terrible attendance unless they're winning often?

They are the talk of the town. I think they will go to another level when the Pistons season is over.

This 7 game winning streak seems to have really have added more.

Knowing this town wait and see how BIG it gets. They are dying for a winner in bases and football
