Why did 1971 Topps cards always have stains on them?

Why were 1984 Donruss impossibe to find?

What happened to Sport Flics?

And so it goes......

can't answer the 71 topps ? however the 84 Donruss were horded by the dealers which left very few if any to be found in stores where a kid could but em for the .35 cents a pack they retailed. The Dealers would sell em for $1 or more if I remember correctly. 84 Don Mattingly Donruss was the top card from that set. Everyone wanted it. Now I think its not nearly worth what it once was. It used to be close to $100 i do belive.

Sportsflics concept never really took off. It could never rival the big 3 back then with that style.

And thats why they play the game.

Obviously most of the older cards had the stains because of the gum that was packed, and that year could of just been a complete screw up. As for the other 2 questions, I have no idea, I didn't/don't mess iwth baseball much and also before my time of collecting as I started about as good of a year as you ever could, 1984 for Football..........Dan Marino Rookie.........John Elway Rookie.......John Elway Rookie.........Eric Dickerson Rookie........Also Howie Long and Roger Craig, although their value was/is much less.........

I do think that "Pro Set" redefined the hobby/industry when they put out their first cards in 1989 because they were absolutely beautiful compared to what had been out for so many years. Score also helped with their "limited" set (for back then) with in which Barry Sanders Rookie was the key card with value.....

the 1984 donruss mattingly helped put me through college. bought a bunch at $3 and sold most over $50.

after college, i loaded up on 1990 leaf frank thomas and albert belle...i should probably wallpaper my bathroom with those cards now.

biggest problem with the '71s is that they have an all black border-- chips real ez. those cards in mint condition are worth a lot-- even scrubs. hang on to 'em. great set to complete in mint cond if u can do it too.

It was the wax from the pack that left those stains. They are called "wax pack stains" I believe.

Upper Deck was considered a pioneer when they went to the foil packs!

1971 Topps was a fine set. So was its bilingual sister, O-Pee-Chee.

Who remembers rack packs?

Those were amazing.

You could see the top 3 and bottom 3 cards before buying!
