9 innings is perfect, 5 innings way too short, BUT...

They've got to cut down on

A) commercial time in between innings/pitching changes
B) amount of time pitchers are allowed to scratch their balls in between pitches
C) amount of time batters are allowed to step out of the box and scratch their balls between pitches.

They did a study on this a year or two ago...I think they said this would cut a half hour off the time of games are something obscene like that! That's what baseball needs.

Four-hour ballgames are insane...back in the previous generation's days, 2.5 was the norm and 3 was a long one.

Tell me I"m daft but i don't get baseball - it's not the length of the game because i can watch cricket for a whole day but baseball it is so dull. There seems to be too many breaks and delays - if they cut it down to 3balls/2 strikes and reduced the strike zone and cut it down to 5 innings it might be a little better.

Fish - Red Sox get on the board today, yes I put my money where my mouth is. Boston and over today boys.....

Braves also win to tie that series and under looks smart in Yankee game. No need to watch the games now.

You're daft.

Baseball is less of a team sport than cricket and more of a duel between the pitcher and batter.

Of course you never get to "bowl a maiden over"

Are you kidding?.....I wish baseball was 12 innings.....baseball is boring to people who don't really understand the game. ok...maybe i can see how it can get boring watching a team blow out another team, but baseball is truly America's Sport. There is nothing better than watching a game live. Beautiful day, gotta have the hotdog, a draft bud, the flower seeds and you're set. The only sad part about it is that your wallet is pretty much empty when you leave the ballpark. One of my favorite things to do is watch the Cubs play on t.v. when they are at home.....and they're not even my favorite team. When WGN spans its camera around the fans at Wrigley Field having a great time just makes you want to be there. Long Live Baseball!!!!!

Thats being very judgmental BHB. I keep seeing this thread and tried to avoid it, but now I have to say that, yes, I know the game, and yes, I think it IS boring. Im not trying to criticize the game, but I think that people that do not care for the game of baseball are not necessarily those that don't know or follow the game, it is more likely those that just prefer a faster pace, in sports, and life in general. In my opinion, baseball is a sport that is fun to play, but just the opposite when sitting and watching. Speed the game up somewhat and it would be much more interesting. Ive stated this in the past and people scoffed at the idea, but give the pitcher a 10 second time limit between pitches, just as basketball has when shooting free throws, and this game would improve dramatically.

O.k. Hache man,

Yeah, I guess I am being judgemental. I guess what i meant were people who are not a big a fan as i am. I love baseball. In my opinion, (remember...MY opinion) The only way to actually speed up the game is pretty much putting rollerskates on these guys. For my entertainment or money (if i'm at the ball park)i'll sit through a 4 or 5 hour baseball game. But thats me. O.K. ,lets cut down the warm up pitches, but there are other aspects of the game that slow the game down. A pitcher stalling the batter...or vice versa. The catcher going over signs and the pitcher calling them off, or maybe even the 7th inning stretch. For me, i think they've changed the game of baseball enough( wild card, allstar winner having homefield advantage, interleague....etc. I say leave the game as it is.

It's not boring at all when you have money riding on a game. You hang on every pitch.

LOL Exilarch, I suppose your right, I used to feel the exact same way about NASCAR until I started wagering on it, and now I know more about the "sport" than I would of ever imagined. I used to make fun of it and say it was one thing I would never be interested in, but it happened. It's strange though, because my thoughts changed with racing, but even though I do wager on baseball occasionally, I still cannot change my opinion or interest in it.
