Well,

I think the desperation 3 by Nebraska at the buzzer was the end of what I like to call, the bankroll "chase" to 0. I literally feel sick to my stomach right now. I opened a sports book account with ~300 Units and I have managed to lose it all. I dont want to mention what a unit is as it makes me even sicker to add zeros to the number I lost. Over the weekend I used several picks from that jacka*s service Union Mans Pick (THE JUICE MAN) and I also used picks from this board. Two lessons to take from this. For the sake of quickness I have rounded off some of the numbers.

1.) DO NOT CHASE.
2.) DO NOT USE A SERVICE. ESPECIALLY UNION MAN's PICKS.

NORTHERN IOWA +12-110 18.18 UNITS WIN

RICHMOND +8-110 -30 UNITS LOSE - up 6-7 points with 5 minutes left in reg. lose by DD

The real lesson is don't gamble what you can't afford to lose & if you are going to put alot of money on a game, atleast cap it yourself as well or totally.

Well said, EGD.

Don't feel too bad, BuckEyez. Posters love to tout their big wins, but every damn poster on this board has gone through a stretch similar to yours....or if they haven't, they will. NYReb is probably the most productive, venerated capper on this board over time, and he has had a horrible run (compared to his normal brilliance) this past week. But I would still take his picks over my own on most days.

At least you learned 2 good lessons along the way that will make you a better capper in the future. Personally, I don't see why anyone would ever pay a service for picks, especially if you are aware of the Rx.

Mark Twain said it best (something like this): The ability to make good decisions comes from wisdom. One gains wisdom through experience. And experience is the result of making poor decisions.

Hang in there, BuckEyez! Take a break and collect your thoughts. Consider the $$ you spent going toward experience and entertainment. College football is only 5 months away!

P.S. If you do anything more on college hoops, stick with Co-Captain's picks....he's hot as hell right now, and he won't mislead you with "guaranteed locks," just good picks over time. Sure, Hawaii (CC's GOM) screwed all of us last night, but it could (should?) have very easily covered, and he will make you $$ over time.

Thanks for the replies. I would like to say that I DID NOT purchase this service it was offered to me at no charge. I guess that fact, in and of itself, should have been enough to show me that I am crazy to place my own $$ on it.

I don't think UnionMan has a loyal following on this, rather a bunch of bashers I believe.

It seems that you were betting an avg of 10% of your bankroll on one play, very bad idea. When you come back in the game, bet 2% of your bankroll on a normal play and no more than 6% on a top play. Remember it's a marathon and not a sprint. Good luck to you. You can only learn from your mistake bud.

All,
thanks for the advice. I certainly plan to pay a bit more attention to my state of mind before placing wagers. It sounds like a unit should represent 1% to 2% of your bankroll. I like that idea, and I will play with that in mind.
Thanks!

Totally feel you!! Been there done that myself. I think we all have to experience what you went through atleast once and learn from it. That was a very long time ago when that happened. I've been through the services, paid the money and everything. Doing it on my own has paid off more for me and makes me feel better as well. I did have a couple services who were consistant, but the majority are there to get your $$$$. They don't give a shit about you or how much you're losing. Anyway, keep your head and during this off time when you're trying to get some more $$$ to start a new bankroll, just follow a few cappers in here consistantly and choose one or two to follow and that's it!! And stick with them through the ups and downs. Don't keep changing, but make sure you know they are consistant by studying them. I know there are tons of good cappers in here, but sticking with one or two TOPS I think would be best. Not trying to be cocky, but I know if you follow me consistantly...you wouldn't come out on the losing end. I'm sure Co-Cap and Kapusta and guys like that would say the same thing and it's true, but do what YOU think is best for you. Don't get down...you'll be back up sooner than you know it. Hope this helps you out, but I totally know where you're coming from. You're right...CHASING is a big NO NO!!
Good Luck!!

dont feel too bad, many of us have been there before and hopefully have learned our lesson..i do not cap myself but only follow a select few people. i am only into this 2 years and have chased or doubled up a few times in desperation. i have been on the brink a few times but luckily have not hit the zero mark. that desperation has worked for me those times but have been scared to death waiting for the result. now i have learned that losing comes along with winning and just take your losing day and move on. you will win another day. i dont know if this helped but at least you know you are not alone
