"I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?'" Bachmann, a third-term Minnesota representative, told a crowd in Sarasota that the St. Petersburg Times estimated contained around 1,000 people.

"Listen to the American people, because the American people are roaring right now," Bachmann continued. "They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending."

Her comments appear to link God's will with those who believe the U.S. government is too large and intrudes too much on people's lives. A Bachmann spokeswoman has not responded to a request for clarification of the congresswoman's comments.

---------------------------------------

I concur with part of her statement. She had better clarify her position, and if she thinks it's a message from God, she's done.

The Teaparty is about reducing the size of government. About excessive taxation. Hence the name "Tea Party"

the Boston Tea Party was not about God, it was freedom, taxation and oppressive government (regulations)

gotta love that someone who was a frigging attorney for the IRS is suddenly interested in reducing govt size and excessive taxation. any idea how many business owner's lives she drove crazy while trying to pimp for the IRS? too many for me to consider her anything more than a sham

being an IRS Atty and espousing smaller govt are not incompatible positions

An IRS Atty is not an auditor, not even a collector, but rather someone who gets involved when criminal activity is suspected

It's also probable that her experiences have helped mold her policy positions today

I believe she is being 100% sincere when she says she espouses smaller govt and lower taxes

but if she thinks that natural disasters are signs from God, well fuck that shit

Bachmann is crazy no doubt... but she is not really my concern. Her supporters are much scarier to me. Embarrassing!! She appeals to the southern armadillo helmet wearing trailer park crowd.

I'm sure at least one of your clients has had the misfortune of getting to the IRS attorney stage, I know a few of my small business friends have. None of them would take the position that an IRS attorney is pro business and anti big government. I get what you're saying that perhaps her experience there led to her current beliefs but I question anyone that gets into bed with the IRS at any level.

maybe god made her sign the offer letter? :)

Letr's see...

I'm from the Northeast.
I've never seen a live armadillo.
The only hemet I've ever owned was a football helmet.
And I've never been in a trailer park.

How could it be that I like both Michelle Bachmann and her message?

Are you all suggesting that believing in God should disqualify her from Presidential aspirations? Or are you suggesting that believing in a God Who rewards actions He favors and punishes actions He disfavors somehow disqualifies her from having Presidential aspirations? If you are I suggest you widen your tolerances to include the religious as they are also protected by our Constitution.

I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I despise the IRS and everything they represent

I have worked with tax attorneys a couple of times. One of them is pretty decent in the E Hartford Appeals office. He actually referred a client with substantive tax problems to me after we worked together (although I think that may be illegal)

So simply working for the IRS doesn't make you a bad person, although you're stepping up to the plate with two strikes on you.

would be interesting to know how she resolved her cases

Bachman does not have a chance to be the Republican nominee, so it hardly matters what she said or didn;t say!

hey, it's the high school dropouts, people living below the poverty level, welfare whores, crack moms, self serving unions and a coalition of special interests that elect Democrats, leave us Yankees alone

some of us a pretty cool

we just seem to have more than our fair share of those democratic demographics. Probably because our generous welfare programs are a low-life magnet.

you should be thanking us, bitch
