At least 50 Americans have joined extremist groups fighting in Syria, and some could try to mount terrorist attacks at home, U.S. intelligence officials said Tuesday.

CIA Director John Brennan said, "We are concerned about the use of Syrian territory by the al-Qaeda organization to recruit individuals to use Syria as a launching pad,"
for attacks on the West.

James B. Comey, the FBI director, has said that counter-terrorism officials are trying to track U.S. veterans of the Syrian war who have returned home.

Syrian Rebels Free Hundreds in Attack on Aleppo Prison (AP-Washington Post)
A Chechen suicide bomber from the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front blew himself up at the gates of a Syrian prison in Aleppo Thursday and rebels stormed in behind him, freeing hundreds of inmates.
Government forces, meanwhile, dropped "barrel bombs" that have killed more than 250 people in Aleppo in the past week.

  • U.S.: Tehran Enabling al-Qaeda in Syria - Jay Solomon
The U.S. Treasury Department on Thursday charged that Tehran has allowed senior al-Qaeda members operating from Iranian soil to facilitate the movement of Sunni fighters into Syria. The Treasury sanctioned a senior Uzbek member of al-Qaeda, Jafar al-Uzbeki, for using Iran to move fighters into Syria, part of an al-Qaeda network operating from Iran that "operates there with the knowledge of Iranian authorities." "The network also uses Iran as a transit point for moving funding and foreign fighters through Turkey to support al-Qaeda-affiliated elements inside Syria," including the Nusra Front, the Treasury said.
U.S. officials have said that cooperation with Tehran on Syria is complicated by the fact that Iranian policy on Syria is in the hands of the IRGC, not with President Rouhani or the Foreign Ministry. Secretary of State John Kerry sought to discuss Syria with Iran's foreign minister, Javad Zarif, last week on the sidelines of an international security conference in Munich, a senior U.S. official said, but Zarif said he didn't have the authority to discuss the Syrian conflict.
U.S. officials have said they have picked up intelligence in recent months suggesting the Assad regime was buying oil from the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), one of the most powerful Sunni militias in Syria's north, and holding back from bombing the group's offices in Rakka province. Some believe Damascus has been seeking to use the militia to further undermine other rebels. (Wall Street Journal)

"The allegation by the Treasury Department on Thursday would suggest that elements of Iran's government or military were at least tacitly supporting the opposing sides of Syria's civil war."

And this is precisely why I am so glad that Putin saved Obama's dumb ass and kept us out of that Syrian Quagmire. We would be fighting alongside Al Queda AND Iran against Assad AND Iran?? The whole situation is FUBAR and we have no business in it.

Do you REALLY think Putin helped Obama? I REALLY wish you could ask Obama what he REALLY thinks of Putin? Were he truthful he'd tell you he views Putin like I view Putin. Putin has never done anything in or outside of his own country, for anyone but himself. As for the situation, yeah it's FU, like the entire region. I'm not blaming Obama for anything except his show of weakness. And to say we shouldn't be involved in global affairs is a naive view, but let's not recycle that argument. All opinions are welcome, disagreement included :)

This is the moment a British man fighting in Syria is believed to have died after blowing himself up in a suicide attack on a prison.

The jihadist, known as Abu Suleiman al-Britani, drove a truck packed with explosives into Aleppo's central jail yesterday, according to British fighters in Syria.

Hundreds of rebels stormed in behind him - freeing up to 300 inmates from the regime-controlled compound and prompting air strikes by government forces.

This is how Iran's State Propaganda website reports 'events' in Syria. Remember, Iran is Shia, so to the terrorists who control Iran all Sunnis are terrorists. Nevermind the fact that Assad started the war by bombing cities full of Sunni civilians. Anyway, this is the vomit Iran forcefeeds to its own citizens. Hopefully the lead story is a lie, because smart minds know the rest of it is BS.

ISIL Stones Syrian Girl to Death for Facebook Membership
13921123000328_PhotoI.jpg

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) stoned to death a young Syrian girl for membership in Facebook social network.

The ISIL militants took the Syrian girl, Fatoum Al-Jassem, to Al-Reqqa religious court and the judge ruled that membership in Facebook is tantamount to adultery and sentenced her to death by stoning, the Arabic-language Al-Rai Al-Youm reported.

Also in the past 24 hours, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) announced that all foreign-backed militants who were stationed in Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp in Southern Damascus have withdrawn from the camp.

“The terrorists groups of Al-Nusra Front and Ibn Timieh and Al-Sahaba Battalion have withdrawn from Al-Salasin Street which was their last bastion in Yarmouk camp,” PFLP-GC’s Politbureau Chief Hessam Arafat said.

He noted that a team comprising 50 renowned political figures will enter Yarmouk camp on Wednesday to force the Palestinian armed forces who have occupied the military bases and centers that the foreign-backed terrorists have withdrawn from in a bid to pave the way for implementation of other clauses of the Yarmouk agreement.

Meantime, the foreign-backed militants also withdrew to Al-Rijjeh square in Damascus after the implementation of the national reconciliation agreement in Yarmouk camp.

Elsewhere in the country, the Islamic Front terrorist group held 30 ISIL militants in Deir Ezzur in Eastern Syria. Now the Islamic Front has found an upper-hand in the combat against the rival group, ISIL.

Elsewhere, the ISIL besieged the gathering centers of the Al-Nusra Front and two terrorist groups of Ahrar Al-Sham and Katibeh Al-Qaqa in Eastern Syria. The besieged militants of the Al-Nusra Front have been left with only two options of death or surrendering to the ISIL.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed terrorists and militants against the Syrian army and civilians across the country.

Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.
The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October 2011, calm was almost restored in most parts of the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies brought the country into chaos through every possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.

The US daily, Washington Post, reported in May, 2012 that the Syrian rebels and terrorist groups battling Assad's government have received significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks, a crime paid for by the Persian Gulf Arab states and coordinated by the United States.

The newspaper, quoting opposition activists and US and foreign officials, reported that Obama administration officials emphasized the administration has expanded contacts with opposition military forces to provide the Persian Gulf nations with assessments of rebel credibility and command-and-control infrastructure.

According to the report, material was being stockpiled in Damascus, in Idlib near the Turkish border and in Zabadani on the Lebanese border.

Opposition activists who several months ago said the rebels were running out of ammunition said in May that the flow of weapons - most bought on the black market in neighboring countries or from elements of the Syrian military in the past - has significantly increased after a decision by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Persian Gulf states to provide millions of dollars in funding each month.
