I will go out on a limb and say that the Cards will be getting the Houston Astros in game one on Wednesday (I think it's Wednesday) of the NLCS. Right now the Stros lead 9-3 top of the 8th. Personally I will be rooting for the Astros but have got to say the Cards look like the team to beat right now.

Wil,

I took a small flier on the Astros to win the World Series before the Playoffs began, so I will be rooting for them, too...

Sorry guys but the Cards win in 6. Houston's pitching staff is in disseray as Munro will pitch game 1 and Backe in game 2. LaRussa has this team focused as once again this team is not getting the respect they deserve and once again will prove it to those that doubt them. Cardinals in 6 maybe 5 if Houston's pitching doesn't hold up!

Houston will have their hands full...the rotation is out of alignment, they don't even know who will be throwing in game 4 as of now.

Meanwhile the Cardinals made short work of L.A. with four solid starters all rested...its going to be very tough, Houston will need to steal one of the first two, if they do that they have Clemens and Oswalt for games 3 and 4 @ home..

According to Don Best, Munro pitching game 1.
If that is true, that line can't be high enough for me to not take the Cardinals. That line opens at -225, minimum.

I made a mistake earlier, I was referring to the fact they didn't know who would be their forth starter...

Game 1 with Munro....Wow...

IF HOUSTON PLANS TO KEEP USING CLEMENS AND OSWALT ON SHORT REST I'M NOT SURE THATS THE RIGHT MOVE...CARDS VETERAN TEAM WILL WORK THE COUNT MAKE THEM WORK, THE WILL BE GONE EARLY...AND BACKE PITCHING 3 GAMES :neenee: ASTROS REALLY BEHIND THE 8 BALL HERE

As of 11:15 cst on the 10/12/04, Don Best still has game 1 starters listed as Williams and Munro. Journeyman, 2nd game is Thursday which rules out Oswalt and Clemens could pitch on 3 days rest but doubtful so look for Backe on Thursday. Astros look like they are in big trouble in this series.

The Astros are not in big trouble. STL' s pitching is in an as much disarray. You really trust Marquis? Or Suppan? Or Morris? Or even Williams. Williams is the ace, but he doesn't even scare anybody. This will be a shootout series and I wouldn't count out the way Beltran, Bagwell, Berkman, Kent and company are smoking the ball. Scott Rolen hasn't shown he's back to form and Pujols looks gimpy.

As Lee Corso says....NO SO FAST MY FRIENDS.

But please, please keep betting that line up thinking that STL is invincible.

D2,

Word of advice! You have been dead wrong on the Cardinals all year and I will suggest you jump on the bandwagon before your wallet is any lighter. I will tell you that even if the two Houston horses were pitching first 2 games they would not win. LaRussa has been on a mission and he will fulfill it by getting Cards to the World Series. In regards to your other pitchers comments, all I know is that the Cards with these pitchers had 2nd best era in the NL and would have won it if they gave up 1 fewer run in last game of the season. Grant you they were jitterish in opening series but none besides Morris and Williams really had any kind of playoff experience. Houston record vs Cards is also misleading as the 5 of 6 they took vs Birds were with 2nd string playing for Cards and Houston having something to play for. Astros and Cards are bitter rivals as country will see. You can take the Astros and whatever the moneyline ends up, but for the 2nd time this year, I will once again win a bet with you as Cards make World Series. Best of luck.:biglaugh:

Well, Houston has made me a lot of coin, esp last night. I see that team as on a mission and I've seen paralells between them and last year's Marlins all along the way. The Dodgers simply didn't put up much a fight. I also said all along the NL WC team would win the NL and I still believe it.

This series will go games:
1: Cards
2: Astros
3: Astros
4: Cards
5: Astros
6: Astros

Astros in 6.

d2,

Always backing a sinking ship.

Here is how it will go:

Game 1- STL
Game 2- STL
Game 3- Houston
Game 4- STL
Game 5- HOUston
Game 6- STL

Sorry! Cards have been there before, Astros won their first series, LaRussa much more playoff experience to Garner's coaching. I would not be shocked if they win this in less than 6 but will stick to my original prediction.

D2, sorry bud, but the Astros will not win this series. Munro and Backe? Bringo them on, anytime. There isn't a single guy on the Cardinals' pitching staff that I don't trust, and that lineup is the best ever. So no worries here, I believe the Cards are invincible, at least in this Series.
