As I See It" Steelers vs. Cowboys

Being an ex bookmaker, every time the Steelers play the Cowboys, the flashback of January 21, 1979, rears its ugly head. The 35-31 final will endure forever as it came to be known as "Black Sunday" among the bookmaking fraternity, with the Steelers winning. The game opened up as low as 2½ in a few spots and rose as high as 5 to create the perfect rail-splitter, as legendary player Sam Brown would have said.<o></o>

After the Cowboys recovered an onside kick, Staubach hit Butch Johnson with a TD in what many would call a meaningless score. But with 22 ticks left, the extra point put it in the middle. I was running the old Royal Inn sports book and I got off easy as we only lost $285K. Some things you just never forget.<o></o>

This time around I will be taking a field goal with a talented Steelers bunch being led by a rookie QB that will make Maddox destined to the clip board detail. Last week, Staley wound up with over 100 yards rushing with a bad toe and the three-headed monster of Burress, Randle el, and Ward are a handful for any secondary.<o></o>

The Cowboys defense is quick but rather small and the Giants pushed them around making holes enough for Barber to get over a Cecil in the rushing department also. Although Eddie George had a decent day it is hard for me to think he can rush for another 75 yards this week, therefore putting more pressure on Vinnie to keep making big plays. The Giants got 3½, and based on that number I think 3 is generous, considering I believe the Steelers are a better team than the Giants even with four straight wins under their belt. I am backing a little better team getting a few points. I will take that all the time.<o></o>

Take care, Jimmy V.<o></o>
