This is an interesting read from CBS sports. They ask 6 different sports writers. I gotta say, the biggest one I disagree with is the running clock. That's why it's college football and not the NFL. They've fucked with the clock enough in college football, enough already!

Dennis Dodd, senior college football columnist: Let's get rid of the kickoff

Jon Solomon, national college football writer: It's time to use a running clock

Tom Fornelli, college football writer: Hey, extra points -- see ya later

Jerry Hinnen, college football writer: Why is a ball fumbled forward into the end zone a touchback?

Chip Patterson, college football writer: Allow helmet communication (like the NFL)

Adam Silverstein, college football editor: Pylon and sideline cameras should be mandatory

I followed this on a radio talk show the other day. I like the fumble into the endzone being ruled as any other fumble that goes out of bounds. Respot where it was fumbled.

Man, I wish they would have had helmet communication when Huepel was calling the plays at OU. The QB couldn't pick up the signals from the sidelines worth a shit, so they often either had to call timeout or had to do a last second rush on a play. The late offensive calls cost them bigtime against KSU last year.

i agree on the fumble call if the team fumbling recovers. Spot it at the point of the Fumble. If the defensive team recovers, then it is a touchback. I also agree on running clocks. Enough of the Mickey Mouse time out to set the chains. The home team can get a big advantage.

Actually, the part suggested to amend is when the ball is fumbled into the endzone and then goes out of bounds. Instead of a touchback, it should be returned to the point of the fumble.

You should just stick to watching the NFL then. You'll love it. They do it exactly like you want!!! Us college football fans will continue to watch college football, a completely different game than the NFL.

Not in favor of a running clock for sure.
Extra points should never be eliminated - if you do why not eliminate field goals also
Getting rid of the kickoff - never

Ole Russ read my mind especially about getting rid of the kickoff. The game is good...leave it alone.

I would be in favor of eliminating the one point PAT but if a team wanted to go for two they line it up and do it. I know it's tricky (element of surprise, 5% college missed PAT's), but I also know TV wants the game sped up, and instead it can go 3.5 hours. With average college scores often exceeding 60, that could mean about 7 PATS not tried. At 90 seconds per attempt (lining up, running on and off field, etc. maybe even more), that could save close to 10 minutes!!!

The networks want the games to speed up. Stopping the clocks after every first down slows the game up, and normally gives the home team a bit of an advantage. As far as people thinking that the College game is completely different than the NFL game, that is just a perfect example of stupidity by those who cannot stand change of any type.

I'm normally a bleeding heart liberal progressive. But when it comes to football I'm more for adding things to the game, not taking things away like the PAT or the kickoff. This is one sport where I like to keep it as traditional as possible. Adding small things to the game are a better idea. When the NFL went the college route and added the 2 point conversion it made it a much more intriguing game on that level..

Anyone who thinks college and pro are "the same" game (especially as far as the clock rules go) is pretty much a borderline retard....if not a full retard. Just sayin.

If you think that the clock makes that big of a difference between the college and pro game, you ARE a retard. Get a life and start learning what football is all about. It is all about the Pro game. That is the goal of each and every college kid. Get into the pros and make the big bucks. It is the same running and passing in both games. The only difference is that the college game really needed a boost, so they screwed around with the clocks to drag 99% of the games out. I have forgotten way more football on both sides of the street than you will ever remember. You are in Virginia, near D.C. You make about as much sense as the politicians do.

You come on here time and again and prove how stupid you really are.

Have a great day!

IF they do change somethingelse, i sure hope its not Another something to help the offense. As college totals staying under the lined number is almost a thing of the past.

Removing the XP and kickoffs would be detrimental to the game. Also, I am not a fan of the running clock. Maybe it could be considered if all teams ran up-tempo like Oregon and Baylor, but they are still in the minority of offenses.

The few items that come to mind when I think of issues with today's game is that 1) Big XII needs to add two to four teams. We need a somewhat level playing field across conferences. I am fine with certain schools having easy OOC schedules because in the end it is all about overall strength of schedule, but I do have an issue with 12 vs 13 games. 2) Using bowl games for the semifinals are a travesty. Bowl games should be an end in themselves. Put the games on campus where finishing in the top two of the CFP actually means something and is rewarded. 3) let players sign endorsements. Don't pay them because due to title IX, if you pay the starting QB you also have to pay women's fencing. Endorsements will give market value to the upper tier student athlete.
