It seems that there are more american flag stickers on republican cars and more flags athe houses of Republicans than Democrats.
This observation is of the people I know or cars that have a local/state/national Republican candidate's sticker on it.

Why is this?

They are all for war as long as its somebody else's blood being spilled just like all their chicken hawk leaders(Bush, Cheyney, Rumsfield).

Jesus Christ!

swasticas, war, blood being spilled - the fog of hate is thick, so patriots are for these things in your eyes?
put some peace in your hearts, it comes from within

I just don't see flags or patriotism spewing from liberals/democrats like I do from consevatives/republicans

bulldog - so if you have a flag on your car or in your yard you thing that person wants war?

Jayharn - so flags mean someone wants war and to vote for bush?

lander -what the hell do swasticas have to do with american flags or patriotism. there are a lot veterans that would take offense to you referring to their flag in the same sentence with the fvcking nazis -

is it all about party lines?

i try to think objectively and thought that I had a legitamate question and thought that I might get some insight, not a stage for anti-war bush rhetoric.
Is hating bush all yall think about?
sad

Loosen up your Tappax, Anne Coulter.

My point was that having an American flag in your window, like most hillbillies, has very little correlation with patriotism.

And really, since when is nationalism an altruistic characteristic?

There were a bunch of really proud third reich'ers

volhound....when you posed this question for us to ponder, and was looking for legitimate answers and some meaningful insights....

I think that most of the replies to this thread are a product of the current conditions of the war and the state of things over in the middle east...

Everybody is posting new threads stating how thier god supports Bush/Kerry and how thier god can't be wrong and has a bigger dick than your god and how the next four years is going to be so much better because Bush/Kerry is in office.....

Call me cynical but I think it's going to be the same old bullshit for another four years regardless who gets elected....neither candidate is anything to write home to mom about, and I can pretty much guess it's 4 years of the same old hollow, lofty, unfulfilled promises along with a constant flow of corporate endorsement, greed, and corruption.

I agree 100% with you in regards to our lack of a good choice in the upcoming election

I truly do wonder about my observation and was looking for someone to agree or disagree, and give me their own observations and why they think this is. Is it just geograhical and only relative to me in Tennesssee or is the same noticed across the country?
I don't think the question has anything to do with bush/kerry
The posters above cannot help themselves, their opinion would especially be valued by me, if they would stick to the topic

FuxxK you Lander!!!

Eventhough you are being sarcastic that is very insulting. I have lived in neighborhoods where you see houses with flags outside. Most of the people are middle aged or senior citizens.

Republicans aren't as bad as you imagine. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, Ronald Reagon appointed the first woman supreme court judge, he also employed African Americans like Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell in his staff, and George W. Bush appointed Condi Rice to be his national security advisor.

I don't see many democratic presidents appointed minorities like Republicans. Oh, I forgot, Richard Nixon, had Kissinger who is a jew as his secretary of state.

When I see a 19 year old hillbilly with flags on his pick-up I ask why doesn't he enlist and BE patriotic. Symbols are cheap. I find those who flash patriotic symbols are devoid of any patiotic actions which is all that really matters.

I think it's all relative.
I was talking to my Pop the other day and he was telling me how for the majority of the 1900's being republican has been something you couldn't say proudly.
Reagan was the one that made Republican not a dirty word again, despite the fact that I've heard he worked for the Democratic party when he was young.
Also if the U.S. government hadn't put the Shaw in power in Iran we wouldn't have had the hostige situation and Reagan quite possibly would not have won and the whole present perspective could have been very different.

If you're patriotic you are, if you're not you're not, look at Ross Perot, a nut ball but I'd say pretty patriotic.

Alex the Great,

Lincoln was actually a memeber of the Whig party, in the United States, the Whig party was for most of its history concerned with promoting internal improvements, such as roads, canals, railroads, deepening of rivers, etc. Basically the Whigs later became the Repulicans.

Volhound,

The issue is one of territoriality. Conservatives are territorial. They view the USA as their home and value it above other places in the world. They do all they can to protect the motherland and if that means screwing other nations, so be it. American interests come first, all others are tied for last.

In contrast, the liberal view is that we are one world, one people and whether you are here or there, black or white, straight or gay, American or non-American, it really makes little difference. They see the whole world as their home and so nationalism has little or no importance.

The American flag is a symbol of territoriality so it stands to reason that conservatives would cherish it more than the liberals. The liberals would prefer a single flag for planet Earth to replace all the flags of the various nations (and if that flag looked like the star of David, there would be little objection

do you really ask the guy in the pickup what actions he takes to justify putting a flag on his truck or do you just make up your opinion there on the spot - I think the latter.
Maybe his grandad and/or dad or uncle or brother was killed in action. Maybe he wants to be a state representative or city coucilman and give back to his community.
Maybe you are prejudiced and spew shit before you think about it.
Do you really go through life pre-judging everybody and everything?
pre-judge this

I was hoping to get some feedback on the topic, not your opinion of hillbillies

Awesome answer.
I have never thought of it that way. I don't agree wholeheartedly, but I understand what you are saying.
Very interesting... I will take this with me when I ponder
I appreciate you sticking to the topic. I don't think I will get a better answer, and certainly can't come up with a better one myself.

Thanks Darryl

Darryl,

I think that would be true of many nations. I would be worried if that wasn't the case. With the notable exceptions of my brother and a Mrs. Moneybags it would take either a huge debt owed to someone or a lot of money to put someone's best interests over mine. This may sound selfish and conceited but I put a higher value on myself than I do on Joe Blow.

I don't think I've ever read any truer words than the ones that Darryl Parsons wrote above.

Vol,

You're welcome. I enjoy answering apparently naive but actually very deep questions.

Uncle M,

Of course you are right and I am the same way. But just like in a matrix organization, some want to rule everything one territory/division (ie. country, continent) at a time while others do it one function/activity at a time (ie. media, banking, law, etc.)
