And the difference between gambling properly and gambling destructively.

Pathological gamblers are addicted to action, not money. Many pathological gamblers will gamble to lose in the desperation phase of their addiction, because it is the action they seek, not the money. For a gambler, being in action is similar to being high on cocaine for the person addicted to cocaine. Both describe their "drug of choice" as seductive and ultimately destructive.

I cannot fathom (nor should anyone else) 'gambling just for action to get the high of having action'....

Can anyone relate to this, gambling just for action not caring about the money factor?

I think a large majority of gamblers have a very unusual outlook towards the money , win or lose...I do too, I have a hard time spending ANY money...Always saving, almost in fear...

I do not gamble just for the action however, and when I do lose money I take a break and earn the money back that I lost, then try again...it works well for me.

J,
I'm in the same boat. I'm just in it for the money ... well, that, and it turns Dante's wife on when I hit a 3 teamer with her and her sister.

Lander, you just don't let up on poor ole' Dante, do ay?:finger:

Yup, I think it is a money thing, hell, sometimes I won't even watch the games. Actually, I hate watching them If I have money on it. I LOVE MY MONEY, no lying in that.

I have plenty of friends that play for action though.

I do it 95% for the money - 5% for the enjoyment or "thrill" as you say. I enjoy sitting around on the weekends watching games, scouting for future weeks, watching my bets come in. But there's no way in hell I would do this if I didn't make money doing it.

I am addicted to the action, but I also do it for the money.

On one hand, I am a bonus whore, I scalp and try to middle - that in itself says that it is NOT for the action.

On the other hand, I can't watch a game on TV unless I have money on it - so I make a small play (10%-20% of my regular play) if I plan on watching the game. On these games, I do NOT take the under, by the way.

THERE IS BALANCE - and if the person cares to try to balance life and money and excitement, it can definitely be done - regardless of what one's vices are. .

I don't think anyone has touched on "ego" yet.

A lot of gamblers bet (myself included) bet for making money (60%), thrill (20%) and for ego (20%) in knowing that their analysis, form reading and selction process were superior to the odds compilers of the sportsbooks.

I would hazrad a guess that all of you would get more pleasure out of winning x amount on the horses or sport than winning the same amount in premium bonds for example. I question anyone who says they bet 100% for the money because they are 100% lying.

I think I do it more for the action. If I win a bet for $100, I'm pretty much just as excited as if it were for $1,000. It must not be about the money then.

I don't think anyone would say they bet on sports for money, i think many loved sports first of all, and loved competition and betting keeps you involved...

Each and every game can be game 7 of the world series when money is on the line ...

keeping the monetary value in perspective is paramount in this business and having plan whn you lose and making adjustments...

I don't believe gambling money should be set aside from ones net wealth, it all should be thought of as your money you don't want to part with.

Yeah journey, i do it since it's the hardest thing i've ever done in my life and i love sports. I would say i do it for the money, but i'd be lying since i never won in my lifetime :(

As for the action , i need a bit of that also, but then again i have enough discpline where i don't play games on TV UNLESS i actually like them. I don't hafta say, hey i need action i better just play for fun. I saw hey i need to win money instead. But that only happens in a fantasy world for me.
