Irvine doesnt have one of the better offenses in Omaha. At Wichita they had a 1-0 win i think as well.
This coach from Irvine learned under Auggie Gariddo at Texas. THE greatest college coach of all time. Jim Morris from Miami is another. They manufacture runs. Theyve both won National Titles left and right
Part of the reason why the game is high scoring is because poor defense. Garido has won a ton of National Titles by playing small ball, pressuring the college guys to play defense and having below average athletes on the mound field their position. 1 error, a little pressure on the defense creates the big inning and wears on a college team over time in Omaha.
They also like to jump on top and break the ice for runs and make ASU play from behind and put even more pressure on them.
The deeper you get into Omaha, the more likely these hitters are overmatched. Every team in Omaha has two premiere pitchers that are draft picks, but a lineup may have only 2 or 3 draftees. So a lot of times lineups can be overmatched.
Thats just their style.
Remember, a lot of these guys wont make it to the bigs. For a variety of reasons, some arent cut out for it mentally, etc. If you can rattle a college pitcher and make him field his position, he may fold, throw one in the shitter, and start leaving balls belt high and lose his composure - creating a big run inning. And very few college teams have a good pen. If you get into a college bullpen, you are in great shape. If you arent good enough to be a college starting pitcher, 9 times out of 10, you arent very good.
