Wow, more disrespect to the Pac. 'Zona beats BYU straight up, yet they're still ranked somehow and Zona barely gets any votes. And how is Cal not finish in the top 25? Such a joke.

Wow, Utah a much closer #2 to UF than I thought they'd be. Although 'SC is clearly the better team than Utah, the Utes definitely deserve the #2 spot.

Cal is #25 in the USA Today poll, right behind Michigan St, a team with the same record, a team that Cal beat.

Based on performance and personel
and coaching staff.... the best in
college football....It looks
like AP got it right. Who would you
rather NOT have to play?

tcu 11-2 should not be ahead of penn st 11-2

are you kidding no big ten team should even be in the top 10. That is the biggest joke of a conference. They went what 1-6 in bowl games. Penn st. Gets blown out usc could have beaten them by 30 but they put the third stringers in and penn scored 17 late useless points.
You big ten guys just can not see how weak your conference really is.

The AP voters certainly bought the trendy Utah hype. The coaches were far less convinced about the Utes.

I'm very much against having a coaches' poll -- my position is that they inherently have a personal agenda and cannot be well-informed about teams they won't play (and they don't try to be; they have too much work to do during the season) -- but I think they got the Utah placement right in this one. Until teams like Utah and Boise State either join a BCS conference or pack their OOC schedules full of at least mid- to upper-mid-level BCS conferences schools undefeated seasons don't impress me nearly as much as an undefeated or 1-loss run in one of the major conferences.

I believe Utah is a very good team, don't get me wrong, but I count only three games during the regular season that qualify as major-conference strength. The rest of the season was mostly coasting. I'm a lot more impressed with teams that don't have so many weeks where they can take it easy.

If I were AD at somewhere like Utah, Boise State, TCU, and probably two or three other similiar places, I'd be knocking myself out to try and force my way in to a BCS conference.

For fun I've tried to figure out which BCS-buster schools from the Western half of the country that might band together to form a conference of such a level that the BCS would really have to recognize them. Off the top of my head I've thought of:

Utah
TCU
Boise State
BYU
Fresno State
Colorado State
Nevada
SMU
Houston

I'm sure there are a few others that would fit.

Isn't that just half of the Mountain West and half of the WAC? We should probably add Hawaii to this list too. And what about San Jose State? UNLV? Wyoming? Air Force?

I agree though, a few of these teams should ditch their conferences and do anything they can to play a tough game, every game, to prove that they're worthy of NC talk (see Notre Dame). There are also MAC and Conf USA teams that should take a similar approach. They won't though, because it's not worth the $.

At the end of the day, I feel sorry for the players, coaches and supporters of Utah. But just be happy that you went 13-0 and are regarded as the number 2 team in the nation. Why aren't you number 1? Because you're Utah. Players: If you wanted to play for a national title, you should've taken recruitment opportunities at a Pac-10 or Big 12 school. Coaches: If you want to coach for a title, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so after a 13-0 season. Supporters: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You like Utah? Hahahahahahaha!!! Really? The Utes? Hahahahahahah!!!
