AOL is getting out of the broadband business, focusing only on dialup, so don't waste time switching to AOL Broadband if it is still available.

IF you use Windows XP, download the SP2 update, but make sure you back-up your computer first. IE will now include a better pop-up blocker. If you don't want to go through the trouble of doing that, download Mozilla Firefox (just under 5 megs). Much better browser than IE, more secure, less intrusive and eliminates pop-ups.

You will also want to check out Webroot's SpySweeper. Chances are, you probably have an ad-ware program on your computer that is launching pop-ups. I'd also recommend Lavasoft's Ad-Aware. No one spyware program will detect everything. 2 or more, especially the two I recommended, should elminate 99.9 % of your spyware.

Popups are unrelated to your service provider and are an ugly fact of Internet surfing. You need a blocker. I have them blocked but don't recall how I did it without looking under the hood.

I have Verizon DSL. I like it just fine but was thinking about switching to cable. The DSL is fine and all that but expensive. I think Im paying 35 a month. WTF is the difference between Cable and DSL. I'm under the assumption that Cable is better. Should I just stick with what I got?

Thanks... I realize that but what happened was I lost the AOL blocker, now the cable blocker isn't doing the trick...

Cable is usually better than DSL. Faster and also if your phone goes down your DSL is down. Unlikely for cable & phone to go down at same time.

I have zero pop ups using XP2 service pak 2.

Journey - you probably have comcast in your area since I think you're in MD. Comcast has best cable internet serive Ive ever seen wish I could get it here.

AOL is overpriced crap for those who are computer illiterate.

There are all kinds of free pop up blockers out there (go to download.com). If you are getting that many, it's probably due to spyware....run Spysweeper & delete whatever it finds. It's also free.

Exactly right.

And one other thing. I think it's Verizon's who's putting out "FIOS" in selective areas. I believe it's 5 times faster then cable, (not 100% sure) but priced the same or less then cable.

Can't wait.
