Dogs & unders for plus money have been very nice to me in the recent weeks (Bases & NHL). It's always nice to play plus money and never sweat the vig. The savings is superb. I may never lay more than 5 cents again. Do others use this strategy only?

All comments welcome

Thanks

I ponder if some books do not jack the vig just to make us believe that is where the money is coming in, so that we follow suit and lay the crazy vig. When I see -130 on a side and + money on the other, I often wonder about this.

Be prepared for long losing streaks. Besides makes no sense to limit yourself to only half the possible bets out there without exception General. Hard enough to win money when you can pick any spot on the board, if you cut that down to dogs only you are playing with a hand tied behind your back IMO.

I play almost exclusively plus money in MLB, usually from +150 to +200. Treats me reasonably well.

Good point about limiting yourself Bill. I agree. I am awaiting WNBA right now and I will not be able and just rely on + money there.

I'm currently following a dogs-only strategy for this MLB season. It's treating me OK so far, though there have been one or two bad losing days. I plan to stick with it and see where it takes me. I must confess I'm much more comfortable aiming to hit 50% or even less and still make a profit rather than hit 55%-60% and possibly lose playing favorites.

I know over the past few seasons I never play a line over -150 fav...saved me a ton...IMO NO ONE should play 200 plus favs..your asking for a beating that way IMO

As WildBill points out you do limit your options by only sticking to one of anything, be it just dogs or just favorties. I always look for underdog value first, though not adverse to playing short priced chalk in a pinch.
I wouldn't lay more than -140 if I knew the final score in advance.

Been playing dogs only in the mlb everyday and hitting from 51% to 55%. Currently 52.3%. Up 14 units in 3 weeks now laying flat.

No offense General Sir, but that approach is anti-OMNIVOROUS. Never limit your opportunities of finding value. Or capitalizing on it. And you are in the right sports as NBA would have crushed you. Plus beginning of season lines in bases traditionally soft, then after that it will tighten up. Most important to you is what you are comfortable with. If you feel comfort on taking dogs and unders, stick with that. Be prepared for that nasty chalk streak, like the 13-0 no upset start in NBA. To be honest, the majority of my positions, when not speculating movement, are dogs, $L dogs and unders. Pick your spots and stay the course. Best Wishes...OF

I have a friend who plays only dogs on every game of the year in baseball. He has some crazy outs that over-adjust to the favorite, and he says he makes a fortune every baseball season. Hard to believe with some of the years where all favorites dominate, but he says he does extremely well. Taking the plus can't be a bad thing.

10 days later, April 4,2004 50-42 in mlb playing dogs only is 54.3% with a +20.18 if laying flat. I can see that nepenthe is over 20 units also at this point with the same strategy.

M lines in the NBA on dogs is a losing proposition IMO. The vig is high, and as illustrated by this year's playoffs, if you played dogs on the money line thoughout the first two rounds, you are homeless.

In other sports, I believe there is some serious value to be had. For example in college football, there are many teams getting plus 220 that have a great chance to win. In the nba, those plus 200 dogs just don't bark that much. Conclusion, pick your spots, but avoid money lines in the nba.

Best of luck SSI. 2 is all we need.

Not laying the vig has been VERY profitable for me recently!
