Jimmy C is right, and just reinforces my belief that he is the man.

i wouldn't mind paying a coach 1.6 mil for a ROI of 750%, probably even more than just 12 million. makes recruiting easier to get top talent, enrollment would be up at UConn, and all he was to do is keep winning because the football team is sure not going to help UConn.

Calhoun essentially told him to go peddle his politics somwhere else (out in the parking lot). This is what you get when you mix politics with sports.

You wonder how a "snot-nosed" punk like that gets into a press conferance in the first place.

I may be biased, but you would be hard pressed to find a classier gentleman than Jim Calhoun.
Never, ever has he disgraced the game, teaches kids good values, etc. etc. etc.

calhoun dismantled that idiot.

and the best part is the guy wasnt even a reporter he got into the press room using a photographer's pass. so someone will be getting fired for letting that happen.

i love the first part when he says you make 1.6million and calhoun says no i make more than that LOL

The part Calhoun is missing is he could take a pay cut and they would have more than $12 million to give back to the state run school. Maybe they could use the money to give scholarships to students or reduce the budget deficit. I think in todays world you are going to see a cut back in payments for sports athletes and coaches. Calhoun just happened to be the target at the press conference. The kid had a point and of course everyone wants change unless it comes at their own expense.

In California when the state workers are being forced to take days off without pay....are the million dollar coaches doing the same thing? I would venture to say that they get paid the same.

Coaches getting paid millions while the states are running huge deficits makes absolutely no sense. About as logical as Circuit City asking to pay their executives bonuses while they are liquidating their assets in bankruptcy court.

I would love to see a national revolt by universities on coaches salaries. What is more important....educating our children or pay a coach millions? That is an easy answer.

I think there is no blame for Calhoun... if anything--shouldn't they be bitching to the guy that cuts that check to him? Come on guys--it's not like he's the fucking CEO of something and paying himself that money, SOMEONE ELSE agreed to give it to him. He's a peon (in a sense) that makes a ton of money for the school, he has a right to be paid.

i disagree. when citibank ceo's take 10 million dollar bonuses as their company goes belly up, then you have a point. this is different. the team makes big bucks for the university and the state, as a direct result of great recruiting and coaching by calhoun. if a stiff was in his place, and they lose, the team probably loses money. the american way is to reward those for a good job. the university is getting a bargain here, you could make the arguement that some of the $ he brings in should be used to bring down tuition, or help fund other university projects, etc...
