Pretty nice payoff for a horse who has never lost. The super was off the charts.

I didn't score big, but I LOVE the fact that I got +625 on my winning wager at 5 dimes instead of being at the mercy of the track odds. Win or lose the way I looked at it was if the track odds were 4-1 and if track takeout is about 20%, the "true" odds without the edge were about 5-1 and I had a nice little overlay and got free entertainment for my $50 wager...

With the favorite Smarty Jones winning and paying a nice $10.20 to win, this race had to be bad for bookmakers. Especially when the exacta included a very popular Lion Heart paying more than $60. Bottom line - lots of winners.

Got lucky I hit the Trifecta and the Exacta ...

But

Only had them for a buck and played them at Bet Jockey .... 300-1 limit

It pays to shop around, I just got lazy.

Can someone help me out? I put down a $50.00 bet on Smarty Jones to win through a local. He said that the payout would be decided at the track. Can someone tell me what i won and what the odds at the track finished at. Thanks for all the help if you can help this rookie out.

Later,

Smarty Jones paid 10.20. You had 25 two dollar bets for a gross of $255 minus your $50 for a profit of $205.

He paid 10.20 to win. You had it 25 times meaning you should be paid $255 or a profit of $205.

Lion Heart was my key horse, so backed into the exacta...but that just meant I broke even on my exacta bets.
Wish I could say the same for my win bets, trifectas, superfectas, doubles...etc...

Can't open new topic so I willl post this here:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones has some work to do to even make it to Baltimore in two weeks for the second leg of the Triple Crown.

''If he does go back to the track and I don't like the way he's training, then he's not going,'' trainer John Servis said Sunday, a day after the Derby victory. ''If I'm not as confident as I was this week, we'll skip it. There are too many races down the line.''

Smarty Jones, the first undefeated Derby winner since Seattle Slew in 1977, was scheduled to be shipped to Philadelphia Park on Monday or Tuesday to resume training.

If all goes well, Servis said he would send him to Pimlico a few days before the May 15 Preakness Stakes.

Derby runner-up Lion Heart is expected to race at Pimlico, while fourth-place finisher Limehouse, The Cliff's Edge (fifth) and Borrego (10th) also are being considered.

Also expected for the 1 3-16th-mile Preakness are Eddington and Rock Hard Ten, two colts who hadn't won enough money to get into the Derby field; Cheiron; and Water Cannon.

Cheiron is trained by 21-year-old Kristin Mulhall, who sent out Imperialism to a third-place finish in the Derby.

''The intelligent thing to do would be to run Cheiron in the Preakness and freshen Imperialism and run him in the Belmont,'' said Steve Taub, who owns both Cheiron and Imperialism. ''Whatever Kristin wants to do is what we will do.''

Smarty Jones and Lion Heart turned what was supposed to be a wide-open Derby into a two-horse race.

Smarty Jones, with rookie Derby rider Stewart Elliott, aboard, caught the pacesetting Lion Heart near the top of the stretch and then pulled away to win the 1¼-mile race by 2¾ lengths.

''My horse ran a great race, but he (Smarty Jones) was the better horse on the day,'' Lion Heart trainer Patrick Biancone said, already back at Keeneland with his colt. ''I have a world of respect for him. Smarty Jones could be anything.''

While Smarty Jones is 7-for-7, with five starts this year; Lion Heart has just five career races three this year.

Servis said the Pimlico course known for tight turns and a speed bias won't give Lion Heart an edge. However, he said Lion Heart ''can easily go forward in a big way'' since he's so lightly raced.

The Preakness is limited to 14 starters, but there has not been a full field since 1992.
