I'm looking to play some craps in Vegas and I am relatively new to this game. I would appreciate it if anybody would share their strategy in craps. Thanks.

Easiest way to play, and the lowest vig in the casino, is to play the pass line and take odds. Odds is a Bonus Bet, since it pays true odds. So the house has no edge on that bet, and that is the reason why they limit the amount you can bet on it.

They use a crooked stick for a reason. My most successful ploy, watch for a red hot table. Big stacks of chips, on the table and in the rack. Ususally sign of a long hand, which is best, or a few good hands. Invariably a few sharps leave when the momentum shifts and the tide turns. But a lot of people stay, unaware the party is over. I bet do not pass, and then lay for max. Invariably, the hot table just does not turn to chop, it turns ice cold.

Second method. When casino very slow, cold tables go unplayed. You could sink the Titanic bumping into one. I will roll, against myself, by myself. Very rare condition, but effective. Probably most important, hit and run, money management. Set a low goal, when achieved have a stop loss point. If you hit a real hand, you maximize it. If it stops, and you hit the stop loss after goal, walk.

Do not, I repeat do not bet, 7, big 6,8, any one roll props, the field. Might as well throw a few chips to the croupier every roll betting those.

Best Wishes...OF:howdy:

How did you like dealing craps? I like to play, but have never dealt. I'm getting ready to move to Vegas, and want to be a dealer. Craps is one game that I want to learn.

Best advice would have been do not play. Best game for an action degenerate like myself. Played with Gov. Edwin and friends, saw one guy walk with 90K, one hand. Tipped the shooter, a $5 player 3 $500 chips. Played next to Joe Theisman and Emmitt Smith. Both were actually pretty cool. Played so many hours I would flash my palms up after raking chips. Family life ended that good vice. Always took care of the dealers. To this day 10 years later they still remember me. When you are hot, and the entire table is cheering for you, adrenaline is flowing, it is the best rush, by far. I would coach beginners, standing behind them. More difference off odds offerings than any other game. My best advice: Go to the free learner's table. Learn each bet, what it should pay, true odds, vs. what you are paid. Also, know in advance what your bet will pay, as mistakes are very common by new dealers in a fast game.

I am suffering withdrawals...OF:howdy:

ILLINI if you're in the casino business make craps the first game you learn after that you can get a job just about anywhere. It's the funnest game to deal after that everything else pretty boring. It may actually be a lot of work learning, I went to an 8 week class back in 1992. Making that the first game to learn the rest will be easy. There are some good jobs out there, just don't get stuck at a bad one. Poker I have found you do very well as you 'go for your' own tips also.

FOR ONE DAY
SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

On Sat and Sun the dealers at Bellagio made $651 and $946 (huh), Rio $471 and $526, Mirage $470 and $420, T/I $369 and $367, MGM $347 and $371, Harrah’s $343 and $297, Golden Nugget $330 and $381, Paris $303 and $276, Flamingo $236 and $202, O’Shea’s $152 and $144, Gold Coast $140 and $125 and the California Club did $134 and $135.

Craps.

Ignore the quacks out there that talk of "hot" and "cold" tables. Craps is 100% random 99.95%* of the time, and random events experience severe ups and downs, but it has zero future predictablitlity.

*For the .05%, See Stanford Wong's new book on Dice Control, which in my opinion has some merit. Guys spend months and months practicing pitching the bones on axis, which IMO gives an accomplished roller, on a fairly "non bouncy" table an edge (yes even after hitting the pyramided back wall).

Craps is great for fun since the house edge is only around 1.4% on pass line/don't pass, and 0% on odds. Just bet low, and have a good time, and avoid the idiot bets.

Any serious gambler that wants to win will of course play 21, sports, Video Poker, or spend literally months practicing throwing the dice at home after reading up on dice control/attending seminars, etc.

The jury is still out on dice control......... I for one believe it has some merit.

Might be beyond explanation, but hot and cold tables do exist. The only quacks I know are the ones that think you can roll a pair of resin cubes and predict the outcome, axis or not. Once they leave your hand, and bounce on that felt, the control is gone. Once they hit the back wall, with irregular pattern, they not only change rotation, they change direction. And how long will a table let you throw with alligator arms. Shortarming or not hitting the back wall? Axis rolling is a complete fairy tale and the Easter bunny left yesterday. Lets ask our dealer of 10+ years. I trust his opinion and time spent on the tables, in the field more than self proclaimed expert Fezzik. Are there hot and cold tables? Can anyone manipulate the dice rolling, to get a predictacle outcome?

take max odds on the pass line, then make come bets and take odds as they get placed...buy the 4 or 10 to 2:1...if either is a come bet...keep the bets to 2 or 3 numbers plus the pass line...take all profits until you have your original wagers back...then press the numbers as they hit...find a $5 table off strip or downtown...stay away from big 6/8..make no prop bets...no field bets and good luck...

Good advice, but if he is new it may be a bit complicated. Keeps you from getting heavily snapped on the dreaded 7 out, after the point or first roll if a point is established. Worst case scenario, loading up on 3 numbers, plus the point and 7 out. Not too volatile. I think beginning would be better to stick with pass, max odds and maybe work into a come bet, taking odds. Much less exposure to a huge hit. Could be expensive craps lesson. All else is solid, some have minimums where you can buy 4/10. Do it if you can, always. The other good tip, work into position to earn with casino's money. Get back your stake and you get to restake it. Sometimes over and over. Once you get your original money out, all bet combined, then you should press. The amount is up to you. I tend to press the 4/10 1 unit per hit. I tend to 50% or take one, leave one on 6/8. What this accomplishes is maximizing a nice run or streak, especially with 4/10 paying. I have learned there are no such things as hot or cold tables, you tell me. But there are streaks. That is the key to any non switching method. You need the streak to go your way. 7/11 on the comeout, long no 7 roll. In my humble opinion, the best and yet most mismanaged time in a crap game is during a streak. If you continue to press you will reap extra profits the single unit bettor will never realize. During that one time, how you manage your betting is an extremely important factor. Call it a defining moment in the game. Also, play for the lowest amount chip. $5 would work. If you are fortunate enough to be on the table with your streak, bet it properly and walk away when it ends. Do not get caught up with the hard way player. Do not get sucked into the game emotionally. Stick with your betting plan. Much different game in person than on the internet. But go to the internet, and study the layout, memorize place bet odds, payouts with those odds. Know your payoff before the dealer hands it to you. Watch others around you. Sometimes you can spot players that are just duds. Bet all of the big red type junk, crap out or 7 out whenever they touch the dice. I know it makes no sense, but I have sat on a table and passed a roll or two, waiting for a stiff to roll. Wild game. I am ready to roll, but on the side, not on the green felt. Gimme that home game.

Omni Frog a Craps Quack-Head?

It's nice that Omni is such an expert.

I got the great pleasure of going head to hear vs. Stanford Wong who wanted to bet up to $100,000 that he could roll sevens at less than a 1/6.5 rate.

I took him up on his offer, but for much lower stakes. $5,000 later (and after watching much heat from the pit based on die tumblin together, short hoppin the wall, and boucing back moderately and coming to rest together) I am older and hopefully wiser.

Omni Quack no doubt ran around in 1962 telling all what a fraud Beat The Dealer was.........and professed how 21 was a game of "riding the streaks".

In the land of the Blind......:monsters-

With such an awesome angle you could be there now, rolling those axis 7's. Dodging all the stacks of chips, bouncing off that angular wall. You charging for your valueless Fezzik's Place yet? Or is it countervalue when you lose posters money. Mush. You should actually think about the profitability of the axis rolling, better than your capping abilities for sure. When is Shaq going to the Mavs again?

I'm not trying to get in the middle of a pissing match but
I think his point was that the probablility of rolling a 7 is 16.7% (6/36).

SF rolled them less than 15.3% of the time.

play the 8 and 6 and double up on making your point. have to lay 6 to 5 on 8's and 6's but that the safest bet. one of the best games to play and there is so much excitement because 90% of players are betting you will make your point. find a table with a lot of women and enjoy. once you learn the game, you will forget about every other game but craps and 21.
