I had a strange experience the other day. I went to the Outback in escazu with some friends. We ordered a lot and drank our fill. The bill was pretty large and the waiter would have landed a big tip.

Next thing I know, the waiter has not passed by the table for at least 20 minutes. We would have ordered more drinks and spent more. As the time passed, one of my friends made the comment that we should split and not pay. He stated that it was empty and all of the waiters were either in the kitchen messing around or glued to the tv to watch the soccer game. " we could do it, I mean get away with it. what do you say???", he said with a grin.

15 more minutes passed. Did he forget about us? I was tempted. I used to be a waiter so I know how it is. Sometimes the bar gets crazy and it takes a while to serve a table. But the other night, the place was dead.

Right as we were planning our escape, the guy happens to walk by and suddenly remembers that he has a table. I swear, he looked surprised?

I am glad that we paid the bill since I would have felt bad. He was a bad waiter and only got 10%(required here). The guy still made a nice tip regardless of the lack of service.

Has anyone left without paying? If so, how did you manage to get away with it? I am sure that there are many good stories out there.

never left, but a similar situation happened in AC a few years back at hooter's. i was with my sister, and the girl did not come back to our table once, someone else ran our food. i seen her chatting it up with other waitress' and customers, ignoring us.

i can understand her paying more attention to her male customers, but hell, at least make it known you know were are still here. we waited about 30 mins for the check, she was no where to be found. the bill was probably $25-$30, we threw a $20 on the table and left.
