I know a couple of you guys have visited there and say the architechture is great. Wondering if anyone ever lived there.

I have a chance at a contract job there for 18 months. Just wondering what it was like.

There is poster at several forums by the name of Perpetual Check who is actually a check. You may want to locate him and ask him. He ought to know.

Actually, Prague (or Praha as the Czechs call it) is in Bohemia.

:nohead:

It's probably where the word is derived from.

The public broadcasting channel here in OC features Rick Steves' programs about travels in Europe. One of them was in Prague. It has such wonderful architecture. It also has a great and proud history.

I'm starting to read more about it. I hear the Czech Republic is Germany's brothel. I don't know if that is still true since the Czech Republic is now on the Euro and it's getting more expensive to live there. Even still, it is a rather cheap place to visit and the women are still cheap compared to German hookers.

It got more expensive over the last couple of years since they joined the European Union, but if you avoid the tourist spots it's still quite cheap over there (especially compared to Germany) and a great city, if you want to party or love architecture. Regarding architecture in Europe, I would probably rank Prague 2nd right behind Barcelona just ahead of Vienna. :103631605

I've also watched the Public television channel here in the US that featured an absolutely beautiful program on Austria. The architecture in Vienna was breathtaking. To think that there is a city that is even better sounds exciting.

If I do not get this assignment I plan on visiting that city any way when I get a chance to visit Europe. I think my first trip will be to start in Germany and go to Prague, then Vienna and finish with Rome.

Thanks for the input.

Sounds definitely like a place where I would like to spend some time. I've made up my mind to apply for the position. I'll keep you guys posted if anything comes about.

Was in Praha 4 years ago. It still had that Eastern European feel to it though it has likely changed since then. Architecture on the bridge was nice and the clock was pretty interesting. I have been to Vienna as well. Difference between the 2 is you can tell Vienna was not part of the Eastern Bloc at one time.

If you go and have time to travel check out Budapest, Hungary and Krakow, Poland.

I would be willing to bet that those former Eastern Bloc countries would be rather cheap to travel in. Both also have a rich history. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've been doing some research and found that most cities in Europe are not more than 1000 miles from Prague. That means a 3-hour flight would get me there.

I have to temper my enthusiasm as this position may already be filled as far as I know. Still, it is fun to plan these things.

Was in Praha for the opening of the NHL season Rangers/TB. Had a total blast. I would definitely live there for 18 months knowing i would return to the states. The women are beautiful and the beer is good and cheap. A pint would sell for about 40 Korunas. When i was there the exchange rate was about 18 Korunas to one Dollar. Prauge is considered a more reasonably priced city compared to those in Germany and France. At the two games at the H2 arena we met many ex-pats. They all loved it over there. The Czech language is a bit difficult for yankees as it is a slavic language similar to Polish. Did I mention that the women are smoking hot. They are very influenced by Milan fashion and are very easy to pick out because they all dress the same. They absolutly love thier knee length leather boots. Definitely a city to visit when in Europe.

QL-I don't think that Prague has converted to the Euro yet. They joined the European Union in 2004 but are still using the Czech Koruna. As long as you stay away from the high priced areas in Old Town Square, Prague is cheap. Before going make sure to get a Rick Steves Eastern Europe guidebook. It has good information about restaurants, tourist sites, etc.
