In Janruary im looking into getting my CCNP...I alredy have my CCNA and CCDA but Im kinda tired of this job I got and I know that if I get my CCNP, I can write my own ticket pretty much.

I got my 2 previous certs while I was at a tech school, so all the equipment was provided to us (routers, switches, etc..)

my question to you guys is: What equipment will I need to set up a lab in my house to prepare myself for the CCNP exam? Routers....Switches...etc..?

Ive been working at my present job for about a year now, and Im YET to do anything that involves Cisco or networking. We have a Catalyst 5505 and Im not even allowed to breath on it let alone touch it cuz the damn IT manager is so paranoid about the infrastructure

Im a networking guy looking to advance my knowledge.

Thanks!

I got my CCNA about 3 years ago & quit there. That would be some pretty damn shitty work to do all day, every day.

TT - im just not happy at Xerox. Id rather be paid a bit less and be happy and enjoy going to work. My last job (the airport)....i loveddd going to my job cuz i worked with great people and my manager was cool as hell...my IT manager is a prick. Im getting sick of him treating me like his little monkey and im pretty close to grabbing his punk ass and beating the fuck out of him.

sorry for the vent

I think you can do CCNP through the books....isn't it mostly basic routing\switching?

Maybe I'm thinking of a test below that one. One of my help desk kids just passed the next step above CCNA (the r\s one).

hellah10 - Do want to purchase equipment or just study information. I completed my CCNA a few months back and I'm also looking for my CCNP. I have plenty of study information if your intersted. It will be my pleasure to pass them on to you.

Switches and Routers are very interesting to me. Good luck.

klowins - im actually looking into buying equipment. Its been so long since Ive done any Cisco work....I think Ive forgotten everything. I know that alot of the CCNP exam will cover switches. Here at Xerox, we are gonna get brand new switches next month...and the IT manager already said that he's gonna do it, which pisses me the hell off. He's so clueless as to what to do.

I think if I get a few cheap routers and switches via eBay...I can pass this exam smoothly.

TTinCO - I dunno if you can do it through the books since this test is mainly a layer 2/3...switches type thing. But maybe it is..I dunno, I`ll look more into it.

thanks for the reply fellas

hellah10 - To further your post. Never even thought of eBay for Routers and Switches. Thanks for opening my mind. Good luck with everything.
