[h=1]More cold weather: Minneapolis awarded 2018 Super Bowl[/h]
Minneapolis has been awarded the 2018 Super Bowl by NFL owners.

The owners rewarded the Vikings for arranging to build a new stadium on the site of the old Metrodome by choosing Minneapolis over New Orleans and Indianapolis.

The big game will be staged in the Twin Cities for the second time. It was there in 1992, when Washington beat Buffalo.
Minneapolis' new $1 billion stadium is scheduled to open in 2016.

New Orleans has staged the Super Bowl 10 times, tied with South Florida for the most, but its bid might have been damaged by the blackout that interrupted the 2013 title game. Indianapolis had it in 2012.

Next year's game is in Glendale, Arizona, followed by Santa Clara, California, for the 50th Super Bowl, then Houston.

Was a given with the new stadium...amazing what 500M of taxpayer money can do for you.

I for one am shocked and did not see this coming. I mean a team who just tortured its taxpayers gets a reward such as the super bowl. Stop building new stadiums when the old ones are just fine. These owners should foot the entire bill; they are the ones benefitting.

I agree about the owners footing the entire bill but the problem is Minnesota was high on the teams to relocate to LA, again. Still can't believe LA doesnt have a NFL team but that's beside the point. I couldn't image no more Minnesota Vikings.

Two other side notes:

Lots of jobs depend on the Vikings and that stadium I am sure is used for many trade shows and concerts etc. Plus the jobs it will create in building the thing. Not evening mentioning the huge economic impact the super bowl will bring to the state.

The old stadium was the sister stadium ans I mentioned earlier, of the one in Vancouver. The first 2 Teflon inflatable roof domes. I went to the one in Vancouver dozens of times and while its nice not being in the rain, the stadium sucks for sound because the echo is so bad.
