Lets see ... the 5 party US delegation to the Popes Funeral ... ok, I can handle Laura Bush since she is the 1st Lady ... also Bush 41 and Clinton being former Presidents ... Bush decides no to Jimmy Carter and Rice will go instead? Rice??? ghees ... why not just send Spiro Agnew instead???

Bush is one tackless MF ...

"The Carters always relish the memories of Pope John Paul II being a delightful personal guest at the White House in 1979, on a pope's only visit to our nation's capital city. Subsequently, they visited with His Holiness in the Vatican."

If Carter wants go, he should go. Does he really need to be invited by the President? Doesn't the Vatican or whatever choose the guest list?

Doc Mullah, for you to try and make an issue of this is absurd.

Carter was better friends with crooked dictators like Castro and Somoza than he was with the Pope, and Carter sold out our country for a Nobel peace prize. He can kiss the fattest part of my ass.

The point there being that Carter pretty much stuck a knife in the Shah of Iran's back, let his regime collpase, and watched as Khomeini took control and incited Iran and muslims everywhere to attack the US, a holy war that has not subsided since. Carter froze Iran's asssets and Khomeini ordered our embassy raided for hostages. Now Bush and Reagan are no fools, and yeah, they handed over 40 mil and some arms in Paris over coffee, but we got our hostages back on Inauguration Day.

If Carter didn't get us into that mess to begin with, Iran Contra would never have had to occur. More importantly, if he didn't let Khomeini assume control and declare holy war on America, we wouldn't be currently mired in a war on terror.

Bilbal, the leftists don't understand reasoned comment on this board, so your insightful post will not be totally appreciated by the masses.

We had no business supporting the Shah. Was one of the worst dictators around. He would have been over thrown sooner or later no matter what the US did. However if we had not backed him in the first place, the fundamentalists may not hvae risen to power. Certainly there would not be the same level of hate towards the US from Iran.

The Secretary of State has no business attending the Pope's funeral. OKAY!! Guess in that case, 99.9 % of the people flocking to Vatican City have no business being there, either.

Ms "I am Reborn" is forcing Israel to give up land and appears to be as reborn as Bush .. give me a flappin break as Rice is an embarrassement at best in her role for this country

I'm more concerned about footing the bill for Congress and Bush's out of control spending, not Rice attending the Pope's funeral. Yeah, I said Bush's out of control spending.

BTW, that bankruptcy bill they are passing thru is a piece of crap, and a total sellout to big business. You can quote me on that, Doc.

Absolutely right, if this is how republicans stand up for the little guy, God help us all. It's not so much a sellout as it is a pay-off to the people that own the country now.

I can't argue with you there, JinnRikki. Doesn't affect me personally, but most people who file are the little guys with medical bills, a job loss, or just simply get over their head early in their adult life. The real problem is these business guys who stash money away where it can't be taken to pay their debts, and then file bankrupt. This bill DOES NOTHING to deal with those crooks.

I'll bet it won't be long 'til someone comes in here crying that bankruptcy is being taken advantage of by people just wanting to lay off their debt.
But you don't hear how credit card companies continue practices just short of loan sharking. Give out cards to anyone regardless of ability to pay. Jack up interest rates on a whim, obscene penalties.
Is giving someone with no income a credit card with near 30% interest sound business practice?
Joe Blow files bankruptcy on $30,000 it takes him 10 years to get back in the game. Donald Trump files on $80,000,000 he's back in business immediately.
Absolutely crazy.

Doc Mercer, I have a serious question for you. Do you need a job? You are obviously a bright guy and have a lot of energy...but to see it channeled into such anger is a bit stunning. Of course there are many things to be concerned with in our society, but you seem to be going over and beyond with daily tirades against all sorts of things. With all the time you apparently have on your hands to post so many angry complaints nearly every day, I'm just curious if you need a more productive outlet for your intellect. I don't know how a seemingly productive person in society could have so much time to be so angry. To an observer who doesn't know you, it seems like maybe you're just one angry complaint away from doing something really destructive. Maybe some of us might be able to help you find a job to put your talents to better use.

There's a high profile job vacancy just come up in Rome, applicants must be flexible and hard working with a good Catholic attitude.
