I remember Rose's streak very well, passing Tommy Holmes etc...he had even made up a name along the say to bridge the gap....I remember hearing the name Tommy Holmes for the first time..Pete made him famous, I can still picture the guy in my head...And yeah, I remember Gene Garber not giving Pete anything...like you said though he really was only 82% there!!!

I remember Ron Leflore had a pretty long streak and Paul Molitar, a couple others, Alomar Jr...no one has really sniffed the 56...And Joe D hit in another long streak after that 57th game...I don't have the exact number but I recall it being a crazy figure!

Same year (1941) Teddy Ballgame hit over .400 and didn't win AL MVP:icon_conf

Yea...crazy .400 and not win MVP. Joltin Joe won it that year.

Ichiro has the best chance because he doesnt walk and het gets some very cheap infield hits...you need those to have any chance at all.

I am surprised he hasnt had a 25 game hit streak yet.

if he hit .400 and broke the 56 game streak, that would be the greatest single season in mlb history, better than ruth's 1920 season..

doesnt ichiro have a streak going now, carried over from last year, and that would count btw.. about 20 isnt it..

If anyone can do it its Ichiro or Crawford....

Ichiro has a better chance cuz he never walks. You need 10-12 infield hits to have a legit chance of the 56 game streak. if you dont have awesome speed and you walk alot, odds are you wont come close.

Crawford has no chance. Has he ever hit 300? I think Juan Pierre has a way better chance.

Not only is he a HOFer, hes first ballot all the way. The guy is going to hit at least 500 homers on top of his defense.

You also have to look at Tori Hunter for the hall. Very simialar to Andrew.

Tori Hunter has zero chance of being elected...not even close..he's nearing 30 yrds old and had 119 home runs coming into this year... .267 career average.

I'm not going to say Jones won't make it or shouldn't make it, he still has work to do though...look at Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy as two great examples, Jim Rice another....

IF Jones continues yea he is a lock, Hunter has no chance though.

0% is a strong statement Journeyman. Im a Braves fan, but I have to admit Hunter is at least as good on defense as Andrew Jones, and his .276 average is almost the same as Jones. The only difference in the 2 is Andrew had the fortune of being called up when he was 19 and has done it longer. Lets face it. If Ozzie Smith is a HOFer, Tori Hunter is the center field version of Ozzie with a better bat.

Hunters story is not over yet. I expect him to hit at least 300 homers, with 8 to 10 gold gloves. I expect him to be in the HOF one year along with Andrew.

Chop...no way he makes it, i respct your opinion but, he's a centerfielder, not a shortstop...the criteria in the outfield for offensive numbers is much different....yes he is an amazing outfielder, vbut he's a .267 hitter, he would be fortunate to finish with 250 homers...I am 100% positive he never gets in Cooperstown....somany more deserving players...he would have to hit 30 + homers for the next 10 years, he's never hit 30 in a season...he just isn't a great offensive player, no other way to say it...decent hitter.

Andruw just turned 28 exactly 2 months ago.....he already has 274 HR.

Lets go out on a "limb" and project he hits ONLY 30 HR per year for the next 8 years until he is 36.

30 x 8 = 240

240 +274 = 514

So if he JUST hits 30 HR for the next 8 years he will have 514 by the time he is 36 years old.....(Thats not counting how many more he will still hit this year!!!)

He has 25 already this year so giving him 30 per year in his PRIME is really underprojecting....but we will be safe.

So even if he just hits 30 for the next 8 years he will have 514 when hes 36.....(Thats not counting how many more he will still hit this year!!!)....He wont retire at the age of 36.

Oh btw - He already has 7 or 8 gold gloves in a row.

27 years old is the age most players have their best seasons offensively so perhaps AJ is finally reaching his potential as a hitter. Turner Field doesn't exactly help him either. Five more years at around his current level of performance I would say yes. Still, it is early.
SSI, are you implying Ozzie doesn't deserve to be in?
