Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, Dale Murphy, and Don Mattingly, all were equally as good or better at this point in their careers and none made it.

Rice had less HR at age 27. Rice played LF. Rice did not have 7 gold gloves wither at age 27. Rice played 16 years. If Jones plays 16 years he will not make the HOF. The whole premise was that Jones plays another 10 years.

Mattingly was the best player in the game for 5 years. But he had a serious injury. Once again...if Jones has a serious injury it will hamper his chances.

Lynn was very injury prone!! Jones has played a minimum of 150 games for 8 straight seasons. Has another CF playing today even come close to that?

Murphy had some awesome seasons. He won bac-back MVP's. He had 100 less HR than Andruw Jones when he was 27.

You cannot compare eras! Rice, Murphy, LYnn, Mattingly, ALL BUT LYNN, were clearly greater players, its not even close, Jones is playing in an inflated numbers era, Rice and Mattinly were the very best players at their peak, Jones isn't even close.

Jones is a CF. If he was a RF or LF I would agree he had no chance! I love Mattingly. My favorite player ever and if he stayed healthy he would have retired as one of the all time greats.

Bottom line is is Jones finishes his career with 500 HR, 1700 RBI, 10 gold gloves from the Centerfield Position....he will be a LOCK for the HOF.

He needs just 25 Hr and 85 Rbi per year until he turns 37 for that to happen.

As you saw with Muprhy and Rice and as most players do.....their best years are from 28-33.

I don't care for Jones, he's awful in the clutch....

yeah , he's a great fielder, but give me a guy who makes contact with a man on third and one out instead a guy like Jones who swings at anything and everything...

Jones is great defensively period. Maybe the best.

Offensively he is absolutely nothing special, I have watched the guy daily since he hit 2 HR in the world series at a very early age..

He also has played on one of the greatest teams of alltime, yes i know only ONE world title (so far).. but 14 straight and counting division titles..

Does Ozzie Smith deserve it?

lifetime .268 avg and a .342 OBP are both a bit low.

exactly my point JMan, he is awful in the clutch, hit the guy 7th in the order and then your surprised and pleased with his production. Bat him 4th and he will let you down..

Terry Pendelton has been working with him and he does show some signs of improvement in the early part of this season..

Dont know why anyone would hate him, he comes to play EVERY day (how many others do that).. He covers 40 acres of ground (how many others do that).

Go ask Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine if they hate him?

Hate because he has lost many bets for me striking out with 2nd and 3rd and one or no outs :)

Pitchers must love pitching with him behind them.

Jman or Capper, one of you guys start a thread about the 56 game hitting streak, for my money thats the most glorified (romantic record if you will) record in all of baseball..

someone started one about Ichiro hitting .400 (which he cant), but will anyone (Ichiro included) comes close to the 56 game streak..

were all about the same age, dont you guys remember when rose hit in 44 straight back in 78... and thats not really close, it ended on a night in which i was playing in a little league allstar game.. game ended (we lost) and i rushed to turn the radio on, just in time to hear Gene Garber record the final out..

I was a big braves fan then (and that was tough being) but i never forgave Garber for pitching Pete that tough..

If anyone can do it its Ichiro or Crawford....

Ichiro has a better chance cuz he never walks. You need 10-12 infield hits to have a legit chance of the 56 game streak. if you dont have awesome speed and you walk alot, odds are you wont come close.
