Pulling for Virginia Tech. Unfortunatley USC and Texas are in weak conferences this year. I have a good feeling CAL is going to take down USC though.
Just one question... Does Reggie Bush get the Heisman awarded to him before or after the Rose Bowl? I just don't recall when it's awarded.
But as far as the Rose Bowl game itself goes, there's only one team that can beat USC and that's USC. Don't be gullible like everyone else. Many have tried and died attempting to find logic in their opponents whenever someone figures it's time for USC to do down. That's been happening straight for the past 2 years and counting in every big game situation.
Don't be fooled by what you think are trends either. They have as solid a roster as you will EVER see in college football. They are deep at every position on the field. So don't think they are losing their edge either. The season is 11 games long. Nobody can look flawless and unbeatable all 11 games and nobody ever has. The Trojans have had their share of conference tests to meet and it hasn't been easy. It never has been and you can say that for any conference in the coutry too if you want.
But anyone who says that the Pac-10 is a
weak conference couldn't possibly have been watching bowl games for years. Pac-10 teams ROUTINELY whup their opponents in the bowls (and most OOC games) and everyone talks about their wins as if totally blindsided (take lowly Oregon State as an example) but within a year, they are once more looked down on as 2nd rate teams from a 2nd rate conference. This year is no different.
Half or more of the top tailbacks in the country are playing in the Pac-10 right now. Marshawn Lynch, Reggie Bush, Jerome Harrison, Lendale White, Justin Forsett, Terrence Whitehead and Maurice Drew will all go to the NFL too soon. And that's only this season's crop of RBs. Most of their QBs will end up running an NFL offense one day as numerous Pac-10 QBs of the past have. Who is running the top NFL offense as of this moment? Would it surprise anyone to jog their memory of Cincy QB Carson Palmer who preceded Matt Leinart at USC? Matt Moore, Kellen Clemens, Matt Leinart.. just to name a few current Pac-10 QBs will go high in the NFL draft. Lienart might even go as the top pick. What's so weak about the Pac-10?
There are so many unknown stars because Pac-10 teams are dismissed as something 2nd rate. How many people here have never ever heard of Mike Hass? Does anyone here know who Halotti Ngata is? Derek Hagen? It amazes me that these future NFL superstars are off most people's radar completely.
It looks at this point like the Pac-10 will have 6 teams playing in bowl games this season. Let's just see what they do when the time comes. But in the meantime, just don't call them a 2nd rate weak conference. Don't say that USC has an easy road to get there either.
I call that 2nd rate handicapping.
