</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>LAS VEGAS — Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (search) called President Bush "a loser" during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school on Friday.

"The man's father is a wonderful human being," Reid, D-Nev., told students at Del Sol High School when asked about the president's policies. "I think this guy is a loser."

Shortly after the event Reid called the White House to apologize, his spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said. Reid spoke with Bush adviser Karl Rove (search), asking him to convey the apology to Bush, who was traveling in Europe.

The Nevada Democrat expressed "regret for the comments, that it was inappropriate," Hafen said. Reid was giving a late speech in Salt Lake City and was unavailable for comment, she said.

Asked for comment, a White House spokeswoman referred to a statement issued by the Republican National Committee (search). RNC spokesman Brian Jones called Reid's statement "a sad development but not surprising from the leader of a party devoid of optimism, ideas or solutions to the issues people care about most."

Reid visited the school to discuss Congress and the debate over judicial filibusters. He repeated that the Senate will be brought to a standstill if Republicans change the rules regarding filibusters to hasten the approval of Bush's judicial nominees.

First and foremost, the war in Iraq. Democracy is not taking hold in that sandy $hithole, if it was, it would have happened a long time ago when all you guys said that the insurgency was weakening and it was only a matter of weeks before it all collapsed....all we are doing now is fighting nationalists who are opposed to the occupation by a foreign army.....as long as we're over there there will be a steady diet of roadside bombs and suicide attacks, and a steady supply of troops and civilians to keep the mortician happy. If you don't think this is a viable statement, just as yourself how long the violence has lasted between Israel and Palestine, and the fact that this violence has went on for decades, and still going on as we speak.

The Russians wasted a decade of failure in Afghanistan before pulling the plug......I fully expect us to be in Iraq until after 2008, because I don't expect Dubya to look at the facts and admit that whatever plan we have in Iraq isn't working, so he will merely pass Iraq on to the next administration and whoever thinks its great to be the next in charge can look at the lack of progress and the billions spent for most of nothing and say "enough is enough" and pull the plug.

Dubya will say he tried, and blame the failure on whoever decides to look at the problem realistically and put an end to the insanity.

We never learned much from the Russians in Afghanistan or our own involvement in Vietnam and Korea.

Whatever party line you choose to embrace, the undeniable fact is that your grandkids are staring at over a 7 trillion dollar national debt.

Why is it that whenever a city needs to undergo a major project to fix its own infrastructure they need to have a meeting and talk about raising taxes to pay for such expenditures, yet there's billions of dollars just apparently laying around for aid to Israel and other foreign leeches and $300 billion to see that foreigners in Iraq can vote?

Is it too much to ask to take care of just our own country and not every bleeding country on the planet?

yep and the sad reality is...the manufacturing base is gone, outsourcing is destroying good jobs gone, big housing bubble, illegal immigration within 20 years the majority of population will be illegals....
this action in Iraq and Afganistan will be revisited 100 times in the future....america crossed the line and choose its path....my only hope is we wake up and take back whats belongs to everyone...not just a few....
