TUESDAY 2-2 +4.20 UNITS

Here are tonights selections:

5 Units Northern Illinois +7 -107

The Northern Illinois Huskies (6-6) have great depth and balance with 6’-4” senior guard P.J. Smith (10 points per game), 6-6” senior Marcus Smallwood (14 ppg, 10 rpg) and 6’-6” sophomore guard Todd Peterson. After a tough schedule they've turned around and won 2 in a row, scoring 82 and 73 points the last two games. They are 1-4 on the road (though 3-1 ATS) where the defense allows 72 ppg. Akron has a wide-open offense behind dynamite senior Derrick Tarver (22 ppg), averaging 75 ppg at home (3-1 SU, 1-3 ATS where the 'D' allows 70 ppg). A year ago, Akron won a wild multi-OT game, 101-100, at Northern Illinois!!! There won't be that many points here, but it shapes up as a shootout.

5 Units So Illinois -5 -103

Missouri Valley battle that looks like a grind-it-out, defensive clash. The Southern Illinois Salukis (8-2 SU, 5-4 ATS) have good balance. There’s a strong gun in the backcourt with 6’-3” junior guard Darren Brooks (17 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and hard working roll players in 6’-3” junior Stetson Hairston (9 ppg) and 6’-9” senior Brad Korn (9.8 ppg). They lost 65-59 to NC Charlotte in the last game as Hairston had 15 points, 6 boards. Southern Illinois allows 62 ppg, holds teams to 40% shooting is an impressive 4-1 SU/3-1 ATS on the road. Indiana State (5-5) plays decent defense (61 ppg), but they are a poor shooting team (41%) and average just 61 ppg. The Indiana State Sycamores have 6’-5” sophomore guard David Moss (17 ppg), but he's the only double-digit scorer. Southern Illinois won 69-61 on this court a year ago (and covered).

5 Units Louisville -23.5 -107

Yes, the So-Miss Golden (7-4 SU, 0-6 ATS) Eagles have got problems in the middle without a true center and they still lack the kind of dangerous perimeter scorer they need to stretch defenses. Forward Charles Gaines (17 ppg), a rugged competitor who can score and rebound needs some help, Jasper Johnson has stepped up early and with him scoring 14 ppg and Clement Carter adding 12. So-Miss's fortunes could be changing. A good sign is the Eagles outrebounding teams 44-38. Louisville's freshman Francisco Garcia set a Louisville record with 15 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 91-69 victory over Murray State. Luke Whitehead scored 23 points and Larry O'Bannon had a career-high 20 for the Cardinals (9-1 SU, 5-3 ATS; H: 7-1 SU, 3-2 ATS), who won their 23rd consecutive home game against a nonconference opponent. Louisville shoots 46% from the field at home, and hold opponents to 37%. So-Miss tumbles to the high and mighty!!!

5 Units Delaware +6 -108

Battle of two good teams in the CAA. The Delaware Blue Hens (7-3) have been impressive on the road at 4-1. They have a new look this season with 6’-8” freshman Harding Nana (11 ppg, 8 rpg), who has been terrific at both ends of the floor, along with veteran guard Mike Ames. Ames scored 21 points as Delaware opened Colonial Athletic Association play with a 66-59 win over Hofstra on Saturday. Delaware's leading scorer at 15.9 points per game, Ames bounced back from six-point effort in a 75-54 loss to No. 10 Saint Joseph's as he connected on all 10 shots from the foul line and hit 5-of-13 shots from the field. Mike Slattery added 15 points, including two 3-pointers, and seven assists for the Blue Hens, Robin Wentt had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Harding Nana came off the bench to pull down a game-high 13 rebounds! The Virginia-Commonwealth Rams are 5-1 at home playing great defense (61 ppg allowed). They have a strong frontcourt with 6’-6”, 300-lb senior center Troy Godwin (10 ppg, 7 rebounds pg) and 6’-6” sophomore Nick George (5 rpg) crashing the boards, while senior point guard Domonic Jones (17 ppg) runs the break. Delaware looks much-improved in should be able to keep this a close game.

Good luck tongiht my friends,

7 Units SW Missouri St -3 -110

Mismatch in the Missouri Valley. The SW Missouri State Bears (8-5 SU, 3-5 ATS) are on a roll, winning three of four games with a strong frontcourt. 6’-7” senior Monwell Randle (12 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6’-7”, 240-lb junior Tamarr Maclin (7.8 rebounds per game) crash the boards and that will be a big edge this game against smaller Evansville. SW Missouri State is 1-2 on the road, while the Evansville Aces (1-9 SU, 4-4 ATS) are not good on the boards, and the backcourt leads the offense behind Clint Cuffle (12 ppg, 6 rpg) and 6’-4” junior Lucious Wagner. Evansville is 1-2 at home and they're off an 80-67 loss at Northern Iowa as they got creamed on the boards, 36-23. A year ago, SWM won on this court 73-58 in a pick 'em game!!!

7 Units Minnesota U -2 -106

Minnesota (7-4 SU, 1-8 ATS; R: 0-3 SU, ATS) looks to be improved from last year's team that went 8-8 in the Big 10. This team can run and score. Freshman forward Kris Humphries was highly touted before the start of the season and he is on his way to fulfilling all of his potential. Moe Hargrow and Ben Johnson are also good scorers. On the downside, the Gophers haven't played consistently on the defensive end for many years and this year's version does not appear to be any better. The Penn State Nittany Lions are pretty much a one man gang right now after the loss of guard DeForrest Riley-Smith, who left the team earlier this week, citing personal problems unrelated to basketball. He led the team in assists (51) and was second in scoring (13.3 points per game). Saturday, Jan Jagla scored 17 points to lead Penn State (H: 4-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) to a 58-46 win against Bucknell. The loss of Smith will hurt the Lions who are just too one dimensional!!!

Good luck tonight my friends,

10 Units Creighton -6 -103

Bad spot for the Illinois State Redbirds (4-6 SU, 3-4 ATS) who are young and lack height. They allow opponents to shoot 46%, and will struggle under the boards here against mighty Creighton. The Creighton Blue Jays (10-0 SU, 6-2 ATS) hold teams to 40% shooting and 55 points per game! They do it with great depth in 6’-8” senior forward Brody Deren (11 points/7 rebounds per game, 53% FGs), 6’-10” senior Joe Dabbert (5 rpg) and guard 6’-2” junior Tyler McKinney (4 apg). Creighton is 3-0 SU/ATS on the road after going 10-4 SU, 9-4 ATS on the road last season!!! They are off a win at Bradley where they won the battle of the boards 39-29. Illinois State has 6’-8” sophomore Marcus Arnold (15 ppg, 5 rpg) in the low post, but they lost 95-82 and 76-57 to Creighton last year and don't have the defense to end Creighton's unbeaten string!!!

10 Units Arkansas State -3 -109

Sun Belt battle and Arkansas State likes to run at home (82 ppg) with a deep roster, and this will pose problems for a Western Kentucky team that allows 72 ppg on the road. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (5-6) do have a good offense led by 6’-4” sophomore Anthony Winchester (15.7 ppg), 6-3” senior guard Mike Wells (15 ppg) and 6’-11” 250-lb senior Nigel Dixon (15 ppg, 9.8 rpg). But WK allows teams to shoot 45%, and Arkansas State has lots of offensive talent and shoots 46% as a team. Arkansas State (10-2) is 6-2 SU/1-2 ATS at home led by 6’-8” senior Kim Adams (10 rebounds per game), and a ton of offensive players in 6'-5” junior JJ Montgomery (18 ppg), 6’-4” junior Dewarick Spencer (18 ppg) and sparkplug senior guard Tevoris Thompson (13 ppg). Arkansas State lost both games a year ago to WK, but not this season in a high scoring game.

Good luck tonight my friends,
