7 Units Marquette +6 +100

The Marquette Golden Eagles (19-11) have been playing well in wins over Toledo and Boise, but those contests were at home. Now they go on the road, where they gave up 70 ppg this season going 4-7 SU, though 8-3 ATS. They are led by Travis Diener (19 ppg) and a tall frontcourt of 6'-10" Scott Merritt (12 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6'-10" sophomore Steve Novak. Marquette played one Big 12 team on the road, and covered in an 85-75 loss at Arizona. Iowa State (19-12) has been an awful road team this season, but has home court here where they are 17-1 SU, 12-3 against the spread! Iowa State has 6'-10" Jackson Vroman (13 ppg, 9 rpg) and 6'-9" junior Jared Homan up front, while freshman guard Curtis Stinson (15 ppg) runs the backcourt. Iowa State shot a school-record 74.4 percent in beating Georgia 82-74, then the last game played defense in a 62-59 upset win at Florida State. Iowa State led 33-20 at the half as Florida State shot only 23.2 percent, making only one of its final 17 attempts before halftime. Sullivan had 19 points and Iowa State carries and 8-1 ATS run into this game! Evenly matched game, so look for a close one.

TUESDAY SELECTIONS

Here are my plays:

7 Units Rutgers +2 (SU WINNER 84-81) +7.00 UNITS

Rutgers (19-12) advanced to the NIT semifinals for the first time since 1978 when they defeated Big East rival Villanova 72-60. Herve Lamizana had 13 points, 9 boards and 8 blocks to lead the Scarlett Knights. Rutgers opened a 12-point halftime lead and never let the margin get under double figures in the second half. Adrian Hill, who tied a career-high with 13 points, played a large part in the Knights' halftime lead, scoring eight points on four dunks. Quincy Douby had 11 of his 18 points in the half on 5-for-7 shooting. Road-challenged Iowa State (Road: 2-11 SU, 4-9 ATS) made it to the NIT Semis when Jake Sullivan scored 22 points and Curtis Stinson added 20 to lead Iowa State to a 77-69 win Thursday over Marquette. After trailing by six points midway through the first half, the Cyclones (20-12) took control of the game by outscoring Marquette 31-13 in the final seven minutes of the first half and the first six minutes after the break. ISU used a relentless defense to keep Marquette's top shooters in check most of the game, holding the Golden Eagles to 39-percent. The Scarlet Knights were mad at everyone at the end of the season, including each other. Rutgers will need a strong defensive effort and continued offensive fireworks from Ricky Shields and Quincy Douby to hold off ISU. This is like a home game for Rutgers and the horrific ISU road record is a major factor.

15 Units Michigan -2 (WON 78-52) +15.00 UNITS

Oregon's Luke Jackson scored 12 of his 14 points in the final 12:12, including Oregon's final six points, leading the Ducks to a 65-61 victory Thursday over Notre Dame in the NIT quarters. Andre Joseph led OSU (18-12 SU, 15-14 ATS) with 16 points, while Ian Crosswhite added 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Irish shot 38 percent for the game. Michigan's (21-11) Lester Abram scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures and the Wolverines beat Hawaii 88-73 Wednesday night. Graham Brown tied a career high with 14 points, Daniel Horton had 13 points and five assists and Dion Harris added 12 points. Truth is that even in the win over ND, the Duck's Jackson had an off night, he's been a one man wrecking crew throughout the tournament. If Michigan can stop him they can win, and the Wolverine's have been playing hard.

Good Luck Tonight,

NIT Championship Game

Here is my selection:

10 Units Rutgers +5 -104

The Scarlett Knights of Rutgers (20-12) survived a late charge by Iowa State and managed an overtime victory 84-81 Tuesday, Quincy Douby with 35 points teamed with Ricky Shields who scored 16 to lead the Knights. Shields isn't a surprise, as he averaged 15.5 points per game to lead the team during the season. But, Quincy Douby started his first game in the NIT opener. Michigan (22-11) came out hitting on all cylinders Tuesday and routed Oregon 78-53 in the other NIT semifinal. Dion Harris led Michigan with 15 points while Horton had 14 and nine assists. The Ducks' Luke Jackson led all scorers with 17 points, but Oregon shot just 34.5%. If Douby and Shields can stay scorching hot from the outside, this team will be tough to beat. The Garden should be like a second home for Rutgers. At home, they finished the season 16-2. Michigan has blossomed late and they made a mockery of Oregon. They have plenty of offense and while this is not technically a road game, remember that Michigan was 5-8 away from Crisler Arena this year.

Good Luck Tonight,

Allstar
