Probably the biggest name for Canadian teams to be moved was the Edmonton Oilers Dustin Penner. The Oilers dealt the 28-year-old forward to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday in exchange for a 2011 first-round draft pick, a 2012 conditional second-round pick, and defenceman Colten Teubert. No doubt the Oilers are happy to part ways with him and his big salary. Penner had one more year on his 21.5 million contract. In another minor move, the Oilers traded Shawn Belle to the Colorado Avalanche for Kevin Montgomery.

All other five Canadian teams were involved various trades as well.

The Vancouver Canucks made two trades. They picked up forward and ex-Hab Chris Higgins from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenceman Evan Oberg and a third round draft pick. They also acquired another ex-Hab, Maxim Lapierre. This Lapierre's third team in three months, along with MacGregor Sharp from the Anaheim Ducks for Joel Perrault and a 2012 third-round draft pick. The canucks hope these additions give them more toughness for the playoffs.

The Ottawa Senators who have been very busy the last couple of weeks, made just the one deal. Defenceman Chris Campoli and a seventh-round draft pick were dealt to the Chicago Blackhaws in exchange for Ryan Potulny and a conditional second-round pick.
The Calgary Flames acquired Atlanta Thrasher forward Fred Modin in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.

The Montreal Canadiens were inolved in their second deal with Atlanta in under a week. This time trading minor league defenceman Brett Festerling for goaltender Drew MacLntyre. Montreal recently sent Ben Maxwell and a fourth-round draft pick to Atlanta in exchange for Brent Sopel and Nigel Dawes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs sent forward John Mitchell to the New York Rangers in exchange for a seventh round draft pick.
