Doesn't seem to have anywhere near the fan interest, I guess because Bonds and Big Mac obliterated the mark set by the Yankee greats.

McGwire isn't 75% as great a hitter/player as Albert, yet Pujols is still not even a known player by the average non baseball fan... lets say Albert has 40 homers at the half way point, will this attract the same fanfare as McGwire /Sosa did, I don't think so because it was already done not too long ago.

I really can't figure out why McGwire became a larger than life figure while Albert Pujols is still a relatively unknown, both played for STL, the Cards were in the series two yeas ago....Pujols is the best player in baseball, yet I don't think he gets anywhere near the recognition he should as of yet.

And last but not least, we know Bonds. McGwire and Sammy all used drugs to pass Maris, this could be the real deal, Albert has a very realistic shot at *61.

To this point in the season, he has walked more times than Barry Bonds did when he hit 73 in 2001.....

Mainstream America may not notice Pujols yet, but NL pitchers are treating him just like Barry Bonds, very carefully.

he does get plenty of ink in this forum, and I don't really expect that to change until he gets hurt

I don't see him getting underreported like you seem to Journey. I think he is very poplular and gets a due amount of ink.

You know what's funny about this cliq...

If I start this thread...posters would have complained...and it would be merged with another thread...too many Pujols threads etc...yet...

Interesting to note that Pujols is ahead of Bonds' '01 pace...maybe he can make a run at that record...IF they keep pitching to him.

that is not true at all...the threads that were probably merged were after a game winning home run or something, when several guys post the same thing all at once.

I did note that in the initial post , he is also being walked more than Barry was in 2001.

Sorry...I meant to say that Number 5 has more HRs at this point than Bonds did in '01. I was not referencing the walks.
