Arnold knows Bush is meat and has broke with GOP on Stem Cell Research.

Carmel, CA, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger broke with Republican party ranks and endorsed a $3 billion stem cell research project.

Proposition 71, the proposal to invest billions in embryonic stem cell research, has been ahead in state polls but not decisively, meaning Schwarzenegger's support could be significant, the Los Angeles Times said.

"First of all, I endorse Proposition 71," Schwarzenegger said. "Even though I haven't come out publicly, I have been very open about that I am very much interested in stem cell research and support it 100 percent."

If passed, the measure would provide about $300 million a year for grants and facilities for the next decade, to be administered through the creation of a private California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

As for breaking ranks with the state and national Republicans on the issue, Schwarzenegger was unfazed.

"The Republican Party goes all the way from the right to the center, as much as the Democratic Party goes from the center to the left," he said.

I think this is what more politicians need to do. Republicans and Democrats alike. And that is to make up their own minds on individual issues instead of always toeing party lines. If our elected officials start using common sense in voting onn certain issues, maybe we can actually solve some of our countries problems.

More silly. I just don't see how you get from Arnold backing stem cell research to Bush being "deadmeat".....your logic baffles me. If you truly KNOW Bush will not be re-elected what are your sources?..... I have a dime riding on Bush and if you have some concrete evidence he won't make it I would like to hedge.

The stem cell research just happens to be the issue du jour. My point is if Bush had any chance to win this election Arnold would have waited. His advisors are not dumb and know that no sitting president as unpopular as Bush has ever been re-elected. Sure a lot of polls look close but in reality the handwriting is on the wall for GWB. He polls around 45% approval rating and cannot (legally at least) win this election. All the talking heads yapping about this poll and that poll are just wasting their breath, look close and you can even see the desparation overtake Bush's day in and day out stump speeches. But hey, believe what you want, I am here to tell anyone who cares to listen that the deal is done. In the immortal words of Chick Hearns "the butter is hard, the milk is cold, the whole shootin match is in the refrigerator".

Stem cell stuff has the same profitability potential as Biotech stuff and microchips.

So anyone with half a brain should be getting in there at the start, its not the sort of thing you want to lag behind on.

Wil that is an astute observation. The mod conservatives will continue to jump off the ship to try to save their political azzes. Not enough room in the lifeboats come Nov. 2

Its simple political history. He's a sitting duck. Lousy approval ratings, deteriorating Iraq, on and on.......not one good thing has come out of this Administration. He's done....go ahead and spend your dime....when betting on bad teams, bad **** happens.

The polls give you a good baseline. The state electoral map cinches the deal. Bush simply doesn't have enough support to pull the swing states he did in '00.
He'll lose Florida which is a huge swing from last time, lose Minny, Wisky, Ohio, Penn........HE IS TOAST.
