I've been having these conversations and arguments with my friends for the last two months and they are now finally starting to agree with me. Jameis Winston was great because his team was phenomenal last year and he was surrounded with first round talent everywhere. This year he lost his best wideout kelvin Benjamin and most of his defense that were holding teams to 7-10 points and now it's glaringly obvious just how average he is. Look at his eyes after each pick he's thrown in the last 3-4 weeks, he doesn't understand coverages and he clearly can't read them. He continues to throw directly into triple and sometimes quadruple coverage which I didn't know was even possible on anything other than a Hail Mary. People need to stop buying the hype, he's not good. At this point in time his best course of action would be to return for another season and work with a high profile qb coach this offseason. He has to learn coverage schemes and how to decipher them pre and post snap. He's no longer a first round qb.... Hell I think he's outside the top 10 QB's in this years draft class....I dont think he will stay tho, because plain and simple, I dont think that univeristy wants him back.....

can't believe some on this forum that would take him before Mariota... I wouldn't draft Winston with a 3rd round pick

If I was a nfl Gm I wouldn't think about using a 1 pick on this bum. Let's forget all the off field problems he has but he is still avg 3 picks per game against some crappy teams. Carma is a bitch

Personally I don't care for him, but whether you love him or hate him is irrelevant. If he wasn't a complete fuck up off the field and had a squeaky clean image he would be the first quarterback drafted and it wouldn't even be close, so to suggest there are ten QB's in the draft class ahead of him is absurd.

I would challenge anyone on this forum with a wager that Mariota will be a Pro Bowl player before Winston...

No offense to you sir, but it's not absurd one bit....here's a list of QB's that are better this year and draft eligible, but not ranked in any specific order.... Just some guys who are better than him right now...
1. Marcus mariota
2. brett hundley
3. Connor halliday
4. Clint trickett
5. Bryce petty
6. Rakeem Cato
7. Cody Kessler
8. Connor cook
9. Brandon doughty
10. Dak prescott
11. Sean mannion
12. Garret grayson

all of these individuals are better QBs woth the stats to back it up. They are all draft eligible. This has nothing to do with his image, more his intellect and performance ... These guys are all beter QBs right now than winston.... Now winston probably has a higher ceiling, but he also has a ton of baggage that comes with him.... If you're investing money in a guy to be your franchise I can't take you seriously if you tell me you would take winston right now over all these other candidates....

I agree red eye...100%.... All im saying is these guys are better than him "right now"..... That's my only point.... If Jameis goes back for another year, it would help him immensely I believe....he is regressing quickly, and he won't get the money he wants if he declares this year

Mariota will not be asked to run the same gimmicky single read system at the next level. He will be expected to take snaps under center (has he ever taken a snap from under center?) and work through multiple reads while dropping back into 3, 5 and 7 step drops. He will be expected to make throws before a receiver makes their break and anticipate routes, again, something he has never been asked to do. He has good arm, mobility, and seems to have his head on straight, but tough to say right now that he is going to set the league on fire. How many QB's from these gimmicky spread option offenses are tearing it up? Most are getting hurt and/or losing their jobs.

Mariota does go thru multiple reads.. decision making is great... great arm.. great size...mobility is fantastic, and this has been behind a suspect O line.. He's a better version of R. Wilson & Kapernik...He should go #1 in the draft......BTW, if the offense was a gimmick, why is it still succeeding

Wow. This list can't be serious. Somewhat ironic to talk about taking people seriously in the same post as this list. Do you watch much NFL? Many of these guys have zero chance of being drafted and ever stepping foot on the field as a quarterback in the NFL.

I agree, there is a high probability Winston is a bust, but to suggest these guys are better prospects is outrageous. Cato is like 5'10"-5'-11" and 175-180. Halliday is 6'4", but barely weighs 180 pounds, Trickett is barely over 6 foot and 180 soaking wet. Many of these guys would be lucky to picked up as free agents after the draft.

I can can understand where you're coming from with this argument, but it's the same argument everyone brings to the table. Mariota and Hundley will both be fine. They are both very intelligent and will make the transition, especially if they get to spend a year or two under a veteran and run the offense in practices for a year or so.... It's much easier to reach a guy how to take snaps from under center and work on 3-5 step drops then it is to teach a guy to quit throwing into triple coverage time and time again.....just saying, that's a more of a problem than worrying about footwork. Jameis has great upside, but he's in a slump, it happens to everyone... He has to work on his trade, because right now he is regressing very quickly and everyone can see it. With the rift coach, mentality, and work ethic he could eventually overcome his inability to read defenses pre and post snap, and improve his decision making on his pass attempts... The talent is there, but not right now...... Not even close... Needs another year and a lot of refinement

Once again erock, you're not reading the original post correctly....... I said these guys are better "right now" ...... Never said they would be better in the long run homie... Read before you respond man. Not trying to be a dick, but you keep breezing right by my main point. These guys are progressing..... Jameis is regressing.... Plain and simple. As a GM you would have to consider all these guys with Jameis and compare them to one another..... It's not all about potential... Doug flute was small... Bree's is 5'11, and he sucks right???

The Duck QB coaches put all of their QB's through eye movement exercises that trains them how to check off 5 receivers very quickly. The announcers talked about that and I watched Mariota doing it.

All I gotta say about Winston is --

HOW THE FUCK has he not lost any games for 2 years?

Mr. Pick-6 wins another!

He has not lost a game in two years for various reasons. First and formost, Jimbo Fisher is better than 90% of the head coaches out there. Next, florida State plays a soft schedule. He also has had some very good talent around him. He obviously is a head case, but Fisher has managed to keep him on a relatively straight course so far. We will see just how good he is next week, when he faces a red hot Tech team. Mariota is in a different zip code. As Oregon will find out next season, without him, Oregon is just your average good team, but nowheres close to a championshiip team. How he does in the NFL remains to be seen. Too many "can't miss" kids miss.

As far as his drops..... Winnie can't count to 7, 5, or even 3.

He might try to make his living betting big money on Russ and his large picks.
