> After the UFC showcased its heavyweight division at UFC 100, all eyes will be on the Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett fight at Affliction 3.

Brock Lesnar pounded Frank Mir and it looks like there might not be anyone in the UFC’s heavyweight division to contend with him but one guy that all MMA betting handicappers think has a chance is “The Last Emperor”.

Emelianenko will square off with Josh Barnett and one of the reasons a lot of people feel that both Fedor – and Barnett – can beat Lesnar is because they are ranked as the two pound-for-pound top heavyweights in the world.

Calling it a “chance to win” with Fedor would not be accurate. Maybe Barnett has a chance to win against Lesnar but Emelianenko, who is rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in all of MMA, would probably destroy Lesnar.

While a lot of are simply assuming the Emilianenko is going to simply walk through Josh Barnett, let’s not forget that there is still a fight between the two. Fedor is a huge favorite in the -450 range and it’s plain to see why.

For starters, The Last Emperor has won 26 straight fights dating back to 2001. He’s toppled five ex-UFC Champions and two Pride Grand Prix winners as well. While he’s going to be on a lot of sports predictions, the reality is that he hasn’t faced anyone of Barnett’s caliber to date.

As machine-like, smooth and dominant as Fedor is, Barnett can win this fight.

Barnett’s combination of size, knockout power and quality submissions isn’t something that Emilianenko has seen to date.

While Lesnar is the hot ticket right now and he’s definitely climbing the pound-for-pound rankings, Barnett is truly the No. 1 contender and deserved of a shot. I’m betting management at UFC wouldn’t mind a Fedor loss, because in some ways it would give more credibility to Lesnar.

As good as Barnett is, though, The Last Emperor has been so dominant for so long that’s it’s hard to believe he’ll slip up. He’s seen everything that Barnett is going to bring and while he’ll have to be particularly cautious with him, he’s still the best for a reason.
