Has anyone seen this Arthur Grigorina guy fight? I didn't like the way Acelino looked in his last fight, in fact, he was close to losing. So this Grigorian guy may have a chance.

Also: This is for Boxing Freak: give me an email at... boxingbigko@yahoo.com

I want to ask you a question.

thanks, bud.

What book has a line on this fight? Also, I'm disappointed that there is not a line on Candelo vs Ouma.

Grigorian is going to get smashed. If you think Freitas looked bad his last fight it's to bad you didn't see Grigorian's last fight. Matt Zegan stunneed him several times and outworked him in route to a 116-112 win on my scorecard. Grigorian ended up getting the decision and even the germans boo'ed it. They are picking Grigorian for Freitas because he has a belt, looked like shit in his last fight and has been off almost a year.

If Freitas fights a guy who isnt that slick in the ring... Popo will knock their block off. I say Freitas in 3... maybe 2

grigorian`s way past his prime.....they must be getting f/u money for him to fight freitas.....because,it won`t be pretty....

the real fight on the card is ouma/candelo....

candelo looked great in his last fight vs the "cuban lover"julio garcia....the problem is that garcia`s walk in style and short stature were made to order for candelo....and candelo picked him to pieces....

ouma`s a lefty....he`s not short.....and he`s busy.....the scary thing with ouma is that in his last few fights,he`s been hurt several times....he was lucky to get a shaky decision from tough carlos hernandez.....who by the way, split 2 fights with candelo....

is candelo finally pulling his total game together?....or is it just due to good matchmaking?

he has struggled vs lefties(winky wright and michael lerma....but everybody, except the superstars, lose to wright...even the bogus fernando vargas....how dare he fight half dead tony marshall)....

man, this is a tough fight....i expect ouma to be strong early....but,candelo has a great chin and stamina..and some brutal inside uppercuts and short hooks.......

a potential fight of the year....

i have to see some odds....

Ouma will win a decision.

Both Ouma and Candelo have faced a few of the same fighters...

OUMA beat top fighters Hernandez, Michael Lerma and KO'd Alex Bunema

CANDELO went 1-1 with Hernandez, 1-1 with Lerma and he LOST to Bunema

BOTH fighters are improving each fight, but the upside on Ouma is much higher...

The saying goes, styles makes fights and this should be Ouma's time to shine. The Southpaw Ouma can outbox Candelo, much like Angel Hernandez and Michael Lerma did, two boxers who lack as much skill as Ouma..

Again, Ouma will win this fight.

I bet at wsex.

be a little careful with that "if a beats b and b beats c,then a automatically beats c" argument.........

styles make fights....candelo is dangerous....how much is ouma favored by?

never mind...i saw it.....

in their last fights vs hernandez....candelo beat the piss out of him.....while ouma was in trouble and was lucky to win......

i`m curious as to whether it`s a 10 or a 12....

g.l on whatever you do....

Yes, styles makes fights. The Southpaw Ouma can outbox Candelo, much like Angel Hernandez and Michael Lerma did, two boxers who lack as much skill as Ouma. Ouma is too fast, too slick. (also heard Candelo only looked average in sparring) But Ouma was looking awesome.

Ouma wins this fight.

Hey, thanks for the g.l.

I'm in agreement that Ouma vs Candelo will be the best fight on this card. I can not wait to see this fight. I would like to see how Candelo performs against a guy with good boxing skills.

I am undecided on this fight simply because I have not seen enough of either fighter. I have seen Ouma on two occasions at the least. He is a technician in the ring with minimal power. Candelo, on the other hand, possesses decent power. Still, I can not decide on this particular bout.

It should be very interesting.

Well, I think Candelo is peaking right now and will win. It's not a certainty but at +150 he was worth a shot. I think Candelo has looked good in his last 3 fights (although he lost to Winky). I think the difference in this fight will be there chins. Candelo takes a very good punch while I am not as convinced Ouma does. He has been KO'ed before, and Bojourquez (a very slow Mexican), hurt Ouma BADLY in his last fight. If Candelo can't hurt him though he probably losses a decision.

But on pure punch output I'd have to lean toward Ouma. It'll go to a decision, and Ouma will outbox Candelo for sure. Ouma is focused, wants a shot at Winky. Candelo has been there, done that, failed. I'm picking Ouma by decision. Taking the chalk.

Right! Ouma will beat Candelo the same way Cory Spinks beat Mayorga, using his boxing skills, and taking it to the scorecards. -150 isn't much chalk for the win. I'm looking forward to this puppy.

Thanx for the info on Grigorian Valdosta. How did you see this guy fight? He hasnt been on US TV has he? Anyway, I like Popo but I think he is beatable. If it wasnt for that shot after the bell against Larios he loses. But if you say this Grigorian guy is a joke I wont think about it.

first off...angel hernandez is not a boxer....he`s a mexican pressure fighter who comes forward and brawls....never was a boxer....never will be...

and i wouldn`t call lerma a boxer....a tall awkward, very slow lefty... ..he was destroyed in his last fight vs verno phillips and looks to be finished....i had the over in that fight and was very lucky to cash....lerma,in his day,did o.k. vs the middle rung guys(papillion,ankamah,bunema).....there`s a whole sub-culture of "not quite good enough" jr middle`s and middle`s that had nice career`s fighting each other on espn....

hernandez was outboxed by candelo in the last fight...actually,he was brutalized...

CANDELO OUTWORKS HERNANDEZ - WINS NABF TITLE

JC Candelo vs. Angel Hernandez

When Juan Carlos (J.C. to you) Candelo fought Angel (El Torito) Hernandez (1-12-02) in 'Vegas, he went 'Cajones Up', and waged all out war. It wasn't his smartest move, and Hernandez won a 12-round decision and the then vacant NABF Jr. middleweight title. Tonight in the tent at Temecula, J.C. switched signals and used his head. After spotting Hernandez the first couple of rounds, I wondered if Candelo was equipped for a full 12 rounds. Hernandez got off quickly, landing clean shots to JC's body and head. JC's alarm detonated in the fourth however and from then on, Angel had 'hell to tell the captain' as an energized JC landed bomb after bomb on a fast-fading Angel. Candelo's stuff busted Angel up pretty good. In a bout that oculd've been stopped, Hernandez was taken to a local hospital with numerous cuts and both orbs swollen. The decision was secondary, as JC's record goes to 25-4-3(17) and Hernandez is now 24-3-(15).

ouma-hernandez.....

Kassim Ouma vs Angel Hernandez- 12 Round 154lb Main Event- IBF eliminator

This was a real close tough fight. Angel Hernandez started at a very brisk pace and went to work backing Ouma into the ropes in round one. He worked non stop and left Ouma with little chance to counter. Hernandez kept the pace up in the second round and landed some stiff rights. He also did something I love by getting space on the inside. He was using his forearm to push himself out onto his back foot and gain space. That enabled him to spring off that back foot and land that heavy right hand on the ropes. Ouma again spent too much time with his back on the ropes. The middle rounds proved to be a whole new fight with a winded Hernandez falling to the ropes in the third and allowing Ouma to get in steady work. Ouma kept that strong work through rounds four and five where he started to outbox the fading Hernandez. At the end of round five Hernandez was able to trap Ouma in the corner and score a few heavy rights. Round six was more of the Ouma showcase as he displayed some slick defensive posturing on the ropes and solidified his mark as the better conditioned fighter. Hernandez played to the crowd a bit and threw some tough punches that hinted at a comeback. In round seven Hernandez made good on that as he got tough again as he got busy on the ropes and the corner. He was once again able to back up Ouma. Round eight was one of the better rounds of the fight with both fighters landing good shots and making a determined bid for the points. The last four rounds showed both fighters begin to slow down as Ouma only showed up for the ninth. Hernandez continued to show hustle as Ouma faded down the stretch and got lax. It almost looked like Hernandez felt he needed the rounds and Ouma felt that he had the fight in the bag. The score cards tended to agree with that assessment as the cards read 115-113 twice for Ouma and 115-113 for Hernandez. this reporter had it 115-113 for Hernandez. With the win, Ouma becomes number 1 contender in the IBF and moves to 17-1-2 and Hernandez falls to 25-4.....
.............................................................................
the question is:has candelo progressed beyond this point?.....he has shown very well recently and appears to get better with age.....not sure how he matches up with ouma,though.....

a couple things....ouma`s chin has looked a little shaky......candelo can punch, but usually wins by wearing opponents down...lots of body shots....hooks and uppercuts...he throws wide looping punches....not a quick puncher...which is why he will struggle with guys that are busy.... guys that throw punches in bunches...like ouma......hernandez was a swarmer..threw many punches from all angles...he just outworked candelo.....that`s how he outpointed candelo...candelo loses split decisions because, while he lands the better shots,he doesn`t always land enough of them....

this is how i see it...

i think ouma will start pretty fast...i think he`ll probably dominate early...he`s faster and throws straighter punches....and his lefty stance will give candelo trouble....

candelo can be out quicked....and that`s where the problem will be...he throws wide looping shots.....and i can see ouma beating him to the punch time and again....winky wright pretty much stood his ground vs candelo and was still busy enough and slick enough to outpunch candelo and win fairly easily....but that`s winky wright...i don`t think ouma`s in wright`s class...

candelo adjusts well...usually in the rematch...that`s no good here....he will need to hurt ouma and do damage early and build on that....

i agree with valdosta....if his chin hold up,ouma may get the decision.....but it`s a bit dicey....there`s alot of bad blood here....candelo has as good a chance at hurting ouma,as anyone else on his resume.....

the line is set tight for a reason....unfortunately,none of my books have it up....

I can't wait for this match. I had to put money on it. I still say Ouma outboxes and wins a decision. That's the smarter bet. Ouma by decision.

I traded someone for Grigorian's last fight. This is good matchmaking by Freitas's people. He should look like a killer.

Another thing about Ouma is he throws a lot of punches. YES, that is good if it goes to the cards. He probably outworks Candelo that way BUT, by throwing so many punches he leaves openings. Ouma's defense isn't that good. He will leave openings for Candelo as he squares up a lot. It's just a question of if he can take Candelo's punch without getting to hurt.
