Why is it that losers like Brazil nut just can't stop thinking about Americans and the United States? Brazil nut, you really have a hangup with this. If you feel that inferior to Americans, or are that jealous of who we are and what we have, I've got an easy solution for you. Join us. Stop beating your head against the wall. There's plenty of Brazilians in the U.S. who are very happy here. You and your envious, hateful coffee-shop reject politics don't coverup the fact that inside you want to be a part of this. Stop fighting it and bury your inferiority complex.

American,

Why all the hostility? I don't think Alex is jerking off to the American political scene and all our shortcomings. If he wants to debate I am sure there are people here that would oblige him. I don't know what his agenda is but if he wanted to bash he could be a little more overt about it. He is nowhere near as brash as his butt-buddy Ivan.

I am just curious about how you guys think and what better way to do that then interact
with Americans. I am surprised that Americans aren't even one bit curious about my country or where i live now (London) but thats okay, your loss.

I'm sure we can all learn a lot from each other. I think that if i get an inside into your mindset it may help me in the future.

I dont wish I were American, I am happy with who I am. But if I were born American, I would actually feel lucky as there are many worse places to be born in the world.

I have many American friends (in fact some of my best friends) and I think they are great, you guys are probably (in general) some of the most friendly people and have a good sense of humour. There are shortcomings though but hey we're only human but what is important is that we are always evolving and improving and need to acknowledge your/our limitations.

That's exactly how I feel. It's easy to take things for granted when you don't know any other way of life. Too many Americans take what they have as Americans for granted. I was one of these people until I lived in a foreign country for the better part of a decade. Now I know how foolish I was in not realizing that living in the U.S. is as good as it gets in this world.

A2345exxx, on a personal note...why does it seem that you're surprised at times when your posts are met with hostility? You make antagonistic culturally directed remarks on a website that has an overwhelmingly American readership, as you know. For a 21 year old, you post some things that indicate that you possess above average intelligence with a desire for personal evolvement. So, why not take the next step and get rid of some of your cultural prejudices, especially against Americans who are truly fine people and well-wishers for the world, regardless of what their government happens to be doing. I think some of your remarks towards Americans are beneath you and betray your true feelings. If you don't realize this now, you will when you get a little older.

It is fairly obvious that A2345exxx is a bigot, whose views of the USA and its people are based on stereotypes, propaganda and wishful thinking which is all rooted in his own self-loathing.

Your silly American flag thread for example. You, incorrectly, believe Americans display their flag more than the people of other nations when there is no evidence to support such a claim (and some in the thread claim the opposite is true).

That is a direct result of your prejudice and your stereotyping of Americans.

Floyd...Maybe it's just my imagination, but I thought I saw more flag displays in Costa Rica than in the U.S. and they don't even have a military or a war to get into a patriotic ferver over. I've dished out a lot of criticism for CR, but I won't slam anyone for being proud of their country. You country's flag represents your heritage and is part of who you are, no matter where you may be.

but Americans do display their flag more than the people of other nations (with some exceptions) - there's no question about that, i merely asked why you guys do it but some people have cleared that up somewhat.

Your premise is just dead wrong. Please provide evidence other than your own opinion and prejudice. Have you lived in the US or any other countries?

I have lived in England, Canada and Costa Rica and all three countries showed their flags FAR MORE than the US does. The Jack is EVERYWHERE in England and the Maple Leaf is all over Canada as well. There is even a Maple Leaf in the "M" logo at all McDonald's restaurants in Canada.

I have lived in Canada and now live in the UK and I know for a fact that they don't display their flags nearly as much as Americans. I dont know how to prove that fact so it will have to be categorised as an opinion for now but common sense dictates that i'm right.
As for Costa Rica I have no comment since I have never been there, you might be right.
Maybe we can get the opinion of some people who have been to those places.

How far back are you going to formulate this opinion? Flag displaying does go up during wartime and the U.S. has been at war for 2 and a half years. Many of the flags are being displayed by people who have husbands, wives, son and daughters and friends who are serving and laying their lives on the line in a far away land that doesn't resemble Kansas in the least, and there's no McDonald's or Pizza Hut either. Displaying the flag makes these people feel better, while they hope for the safe return of their loved ones. I have a folded flag from my grandfathers military funeral 25 years ago. It was folded by the soldiers who took part in the ceremony and handed to my now-deceased grandmother, who left it to me. It remains in the folded state as when they handed it to her. THIS flag makes ME feel better and stands for everything my grandfather and his generation fought for, as well as those before him and after. I don't give a shit if you find this perplexing or not.

You claim you have lived in Canada and the UK yet you have never lived in the USA? How can you make an informed comparison then?

Thanks because we don't give a shit. We forge ahead, following our hearts through good times and bad, while the rest of the world congregates at the local Starbucks to debate what an sinister people we are. What else can they do?
