You are mostly correct. However this venture is so far beyond the scope of what they have done before that they are practically a branch of the military. The hijinx that are going on here are way beyond what happens in other sectors of the economy. If they were held to the same standards as the men who they are providing service to they would have been court martialed a long time ago. Also, the fact that they were handed the contract contrary to public contracting code should bother you but apparently it does not.

Theyre simply the best.Sometimes quality of expertise takes precedent.Lifes not fair.Contracting codes having to do with municipal streets and sewer systems etc....are not in the same category as rebuilding cities in a war zone.

Anyone with a little extra cash lying around and a little foresight who bought HAL in 2003 has more than made up for their share of the money that Halliburton has stolen from them. Doesn't mean they aren't a bunch of crooks though.

The fact that there is little to no oversight bothers me but the fact the company best equipped to do this work is receiving the most contracts doesnt. The fact is Halliburton has been doing this kind or infrastructure rebuilding for DECADES for the government.I agree entirely that financial hijinx are taking place....but doesnt that happen in EVERY sector of the US economy? Are you trying to say companies run by registered Democrats are free from scandals? When Clinton was in office,do you think this kind of stuff didnt go on?Soldiers say the guys on the ground for these companies work is second to none and without them it would be unbearable. Can we keep the criticisms on the suits? That would be nice.

Exactly! Folks, we need to stop concentrating on conservative vs liberal and repub vs dem. It has become government vs the people.

The Army has the same set of codes, I know because I used to work with their contracting officers as well. Old Don Lander would never have allowed a contractor to rape and pillage his budget like Halliburton has done.

geez Edub thanks for setting me up!!! I could care less just as long as you do the job right and no screwing the public or you'll never get another!! Think Halliburton is a fine comapny but I think they screwed us a few times but so would the others I'm sure.

so you feel that no matter what company had recieved the contracts, they'd
have "screwed" the taxpayers, and that you're ok with that as long as the
work appears to get done ?

don't you think that there should be more overseeing by the government and harsher penalties for the companies that "screw" us ? maybe overhaul the system that allows the american government to be constantly "screwed".

i agree that corruption occurs in both parties. in fact, if i remember correctly, a
councilman from minneapolis that was in the green party was just arrested.
my point is, that by accepting corruption, we're endorsing corruption. we have a responsibility to ourselves and our communities to vote corrupt officials out of office.

This screwing is here to stay until some proper safeguards and accounting practices are in place, until then all you're ever going to get done is shuffling the deck in terms of the good ole boys network....

Waste your time and go vote, I'll stay home on election night, and the next morning we will both still be rowing the same boat in the cesspool of corruption.

Changing people won't help. You have to change the rules.

I agree Marco. We need a system of more than just 2 parties. I think that's where someone like McCain would have a better shot of getting out of the primary. But I still do vote.

"We need a system of more than just two parties."

Two parties will work if they live under some real rules, and cut out all the bribery that goes on between business and politicians....penalize the lawbreakers...

Three parties or thirty, won't make any difference when they can do whatever they want to do and have little fear of getting caught.

If the rules that they work under don't change then you cannot expect any reform to happen by just going out and voting for someone just as corrupt as the last asshole. They know how to play the game and they look out for thier own interests quite well.
