I deposited a 20,000 cashiers check from a major american bank with a book to reload my account(I won't mention the book....however it has one of the best reputations in the offshore world)two weeks ago today.

The check STILL has'nt cleared. BM's, in your opinion, how long should it take for a check of this nature to clear?

6 to 8 weeks

Wish I didn't know now what I didn't now then."

Nothing unusual there. It sucks but not much anyone can do.And the check has probably already cleared your account.BTW here it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month.

You should do a bank wire next time or a WU
A lot faster

Judge, it did clear my account on 12/30.

This happened at Carib....and instead of giving it to me straight, Liz in marketing told me that "something must be wrong with my check...maybe it did'nt get cashed because they knew it was for gambling purposes". I swear to God she had the nerve to say that.

They are in a different country. Here the banks hold thye money for about two weeks after it clears I assume to make a profit off of it.

We use Banco Ban Crecen in Costa Rica and foreign cashiers checks usually take about a month to go through. Costa Rican banks really should find some better form of dealing with these checks seeing as there are so many foreigners living here.
