They say the combat footage from "saving Pvt Ryan was the most realistic of all the movies.

I had an Uncle that was there. We buried him on this day 3 years ago.

They were a group that was hardened by the great depression. Most entered the service when the were 17 to 26, so the depression started when they were 7 to 16 years old.

The most admirable people in our history had to be the founding fathers. Most all were wealthy by new world standards but they risk it all by signing the declaration of independence. Most died much poorer than they would of had they not pushed fourth the most liberal thinking in the world to that time.

As for the spirit of the post, I concur, the founding fathers were great men.

But talk about lefty spin. Searching for a way to connect founding fathers and liberal, nows that's funny.

There is nothing liberal when talking about individual responsibilities and the right to pursue happiness. It was clearly not their intent to have an ever growing federal government trampling on states' rights. They wanted very little authority vested in the federal government.

It's more accurate to say liberalism has warped their intent.

You can't paint all the Founding Fathers with the same brush. Hamilton probably would like what he sees today.

However, as a whole, the Founding Fathers most likely would be identified as Libertarian by today's standards.

If you conservatives what to claim one, take Jefferson who thought that the governement should be made up of elites and that the common man had no place in government.

Wille is the fact that liberalism champions the rights and dignity of every man so hard for you to get your brain around?

And in that vein how I described the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were triumphs of never before heard of liberalism.

Punter, don't confuse one's ideology with one's political value system.

I want all the best for mankind, I just think there's a different way to get there.

The welfare system that creates more poverty, a self fulfilling quagmire, is not the answer in my book.

The compassion nonsense is poppycock, another great example of what the left uses instead of ideas.

How are the sales of your book coming? Bad I would guess cause all your potential readers are busy listening to talk radio.

I don't get it. How does a thread entitled, "a moment of silence in rememberance of D day," go down this ugly path?

It’s a common formula. Take a tread, add punter, stir well and there you go. Can you imagine what it would be like if you added ktv and gtc to the mix.

Dave yeah, but where's the controversy in this title? It's not like it's entitled, "Bush Sucks," or "Obama Blows." It's a tribute thread.

I believe Punter is a vet, correct? If that is so, maybe he misunderstood Willie's second sentence in the initial post. It seems sincere, and not like a jibe. What am I missing here?

Yes he is. However I don’t think he’s old enough to have fought in WWII. If that’s why he took offense to Willie, shame on him.
