But none the less…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An appeals court ruled on Friday that President Barack Obama's healthcare law requiring Americans to buy healthcare insurance or face a penalty was unconstitutional, a blow to the White House.

The Appeals Court for the 11th Circuit, based in Atlanta, found that Congress exceeded its authority by requiring Americans to buy coverage, but also ruled that the rest of the wide-ranging law could remain in effect.

The legality of the so-called individual mandate, a cornerstone of the healthcare law, is widely expected to be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Obama administration has defended the provision as constitutional.

Maybe the system does work.

More times then not. It’s just laboriously slow. At first it irritated me the SC wouldn’t fast track it, now I think it will be perfect, right before the election. Perfect timing.

I hope the SC does rule it unconstitutional but wouldn't that help Obama a little. In that case Obama wouldn't have to spend time defending that dopey law and the Republicans would lose a very big arrow in their quiver if the situation was settled before the election!

My understanding was that there was no requirement to buy health insurance, simply that there would be tax penalties for those who choose not to

Sort of like social security. You don't have to buy into the system, but it could be a major hardship to avoid doing so

If they say everything else is good to go, seems like support that it is constitutional. But that has never been the question on whether it was good or nor

and they act like the Chief Justice didn't have to call Obama a liar to enable the law to stand

you see, while the least prepared man in the room and his pea-brains were telling the cement block heads "it's not a tax", his lawyers were inside the court arguing it is a tax (the only way it could survive)

John Roberts eventually said "it's a tax" and Obamacare stands.

After the ruling, the least prepared man in the room still says "it's not a tax". He's an idiot, a liar, intellectually dishonest, racist, the worst president ever, but he sure does know how to spoon feed his school of fish

and while they're all there swimming in the same direction they argue, "I'm an independent thinker"

too funny

The beauty of history. We get to see who was right, who was wrong. ^

Roberts decieion was wrong. Now the country is paying the price.

Only a Liberal can champion that kind of history.

Roberts, and the Courts decision, was that it was Constitutional. The decision was correct, it is. They weren't deciding whether Obamacare would work. History will decide that, and if you and the least prepared guy on this board, who is always wrong, among others are burying it, the VERY strong trend will be that ObamaCare will ultimately be a smashing success in spite of it's rocky start.

It boiled down to penalty or tax. Obama called it a penalty and to this day it is still referred to as a penalty.

However Roberts knew that was unconstitutional so he took it upon himself to call it a tax which is constitutional.

I stick to my original statement that Roberts decision was wrong. The only thing that makes any sence is the administration has compromising pictures of Roberts with Pelosi.
