the one contribution that i can make to the posters on this forum is to use my 30 years of sports booking/betting to tell them the truth.

1. almost all of the touts in the country are bettors who can not beat the book long term.

2. there are no true professional gamblers on this forum who are touts. there are many wannabee's and frauds but no true pro's

3.anyone can get hot for a season or even a year, very, very few can make a living from betting sports over the course of 2 years or more.
maybe one in five thousand.

4.NEVER EVER PAY SOMEONE FOR THEIR PICKS!
if you can't put in the time(at least 60 hours per week) to formulate your own plays, you should only bet for recreational reasons.
TRUST NO ONE.

5. there are pro sports bettors who can win long term. they generally have dedicated their life to the work that it takes to win. you cannot work 40-60 hours for your employer and expect to be able to watch espn for a few hours and comb through some stats and then make your plays and win. it is life consuming to win long term.

6. once again, NEVER PAY FOR PICKS.

Very true.

The only thing worse than losing a game is losing a game that a tout has given you.

Now your hurting all of the RX's new touts man! Expect uncle nut sucker to be in here shortly deleting posts! Protect the touts at all cost's right uncle! Go **** yourself!

Best of luck no matter what side you are on!

I had some questions about your thoughts on the subject.

1. How do you define a professional gambler? What sets them apart from me, for instance?

2. If only 1 in 5 thousand can win in the long term, then what in the heck are you doing gambling at all? Those are horrible odds for you or anyone.

I don't agree with you on some of these things, and I'm interested in your responses, so let me know.

Take a look at the number of Sportsbooks, that are In business today.

Yes, there are a few that go out of business, but the majority, make it big.

We gotta get Biff Back to Future into this thread somehow. /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"In your heart, you know he's right."

Surely you are joking. If not let me make it easy for you, at 19 years old you like everyone else your age is a true dumbass in the world of sports betting. At 19 you don't know everything, in fact you know very little. I know you think older people just don't get how smart you got in such a short time. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I may get hammered on this but I took the time to compare our monitored records here to prove a point. You are a professional tout, I'm a fat drunk Irishman putting picks out here for free the last two years. The only two sports not here are pucks and college hoops which aren't monitored by TRK. College hoops is my best sport and you have admitted pucks is something you know nothing about. Let's generously call that a wash and look at the sports where we have both had our plays monitored by a 3rd party. As of December 17th:

MLB (Regular season)

Jake +29.65 units / Irish +11.08

I will be the first to congratulate you on a good baseball season. But the truth is and we both know it you actually lost money since you started selling picks. No I won't go to your site but you were +30 units at the time you started selling plays. Look where you ended up. Broke even at best since you started selling plays. However if I don't count the year as part of your "professional resume" it will really get ugly. So with that in mind, advantage TOUT. Nice job there and I won't say otherwise even though a solid 11+ unit win in baseball for the square isn't bad either.

MLB (Play-offs)

Jake -0.11 units / Irish +6.05 units

Clear advantage run of the mill square.

NBA

Jake -10.5 units / Irish -2.5 units

Season isn't over right now and this may change, but right now clear advantage run of the mill square.

NFL

Jake -10.14 units / Irish +2.2 units

Nothing to write home about this year but to be up a couple units is much better than being down a couple. Plus I have other ways to churn profits. You on the other hand are down double digit units again. To date, clear advantage every day run of the mill square. See a pattern developing here?

NCAA football

Jake -12.55 units / Irish +10.8 units

Clearly an advantage for the guy who throws picks out all year long - FOR FREE. Huge advantage run of the mill square.

See where I'm going? And you wanted to know the difference between a pro and you? I'm not even a pro and look at the difference between us. I'm not putting this here to bust your balls, I'm just sick of touts twisting stuff around about how good they are. I can register under a name and lose in a sport. Register again and try again. Lose? Oh well try again. I can register the 6th time and have a winning year finally and suddenly go tout under my new posting name. And please don't tell me guys aren't out there scheming and planning to do this. Happens all the time, look how many 2002 or later dates these guys registered. Did they all just find this place? And in fact they have others on the team who gloss them repeatedly and back them up to try and encourage to join the winning team. Frankly the whole tout thing makes me sick.

Having said all this, I'm not singling you out Jake. Though I think you have changed 360 degrees from the kid I used to like and respect, this is here to help you. First off with numbers like you are showing above SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND DO YOUR WORK!! Those numbers are ugly. Take out where you were when you started in bases and you are losing not in one or two sports, but every single sport that is known to man. And big in each. A guy like me that isn't in the top 40% of the forums in capping is beating you decisively overall, I would guess if you added up all those numbers I am ahead even if you count your bases which was done before you went tout. Nothing funny, just playing 1 unit a game just like you do. I'd hate to see how a "pro" would make you look. That's part of the difference between you and a pro Jake.

In closing I want to say I have no probelm with you selling yourself out for money. In fact as a teen-ager you will learn some valuable stuff you will use in the rest of your adult life. Nice to see some motivation, it's just the way you have come across recently that is disappointing. One of those things I hope you learn is to be humble and work hard, not try to piss down the back of people's neck and tell them it's raining like most touts do.

You know why I don't sell my picks? Because I'm not good enough. And the best part is I realize it. Sure I can go out and twist things and play big 75 unit plays here, *50 unit plays here and brag about being up $75,000 dollars to fool some sqaures but not my style. Plus I don't need to. I think touts for the most part are worthless scumbags. Sorry Jake, just telling it like it is. I once asked my Pop why he didn't play pool professionally. It was an art to watch him run rack after rack. He said because I'm good enough to know I'm not worth a shit. He was hustle proof. Something a lot of people around here better get real fast.

'Nuff said.

Patrick, a few problems with your post. First off, you are not a "run of the mill square", as you put it, so let's not act like your competition is against someone who doesn't know anything. You are a solid capper. Second of all, your records for me are off on alot of sports. I know they are my posted records, but NCAA I'm even at worst (haven't added last week up), and I won about 8 units in NFL preseason, so the NFL # and overal # is misleading. As of about a month ago I was up 8 units in both NHL and NBA, so you definately have to wait for the year to end before judging my abilities in either as I am confident I'll finish up in both. Furthermore, I don't necessarily think age in anyway correlates the amount I may know or not know. It's all about the work you put into it, and I've put an extravagant amount of work into betting. I don't start betting anything blindly (except baseball last year) and always research well before the season starts. I still pull an occasional square move or two, but they are few and far between. I have solid reasoning behind every single bet I make as well. I agree with you completely about the touts that change names until they hit a winning streak. That's deceit plain and simple. I have never done that. Through thick and thin I've stuck to the one name. Just for the record, you forgot my +5 or so units in NCAA Basketball. I'd really like to hear in what ways I've changed, and I say that with interest and not an intent to start an argument. I've respected you ever since I first started reading your posts, and I really don't see any change in the way I carry myself. True, I am more defensive toward people, but when there are people whose soul goal is to lie about what I am trying to accomplish, it is not as easy to respond with a smile. Let me know what I am doing wrong, what I have changed, and what you think will be a step in the right direction. Let me know, and I'll be up in NBA/NHL before the year's over. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Seems like Paddy and Trent Lott both need some "sensitivity training." /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i dont like it when people post here with the intent of developing a following, so that they can go tout. several people have done it, and some are still trying to show good enough numbers to do it.

Just to go slightly off topic (I'm still wondering in what ways people think I've changed...), did anyone else not get offended by what Lott said? The only quote I've heard that has caused problems was something like "If the rest of America followed our lead, we wouldn't be as bad off as were are today." I understand that the whole South Carolina/slavery issue is what has offended many people, but does anyone really believe he was talking about that? Yea I know I'm off topic, but I haven't really heard anyone defending him...

First off thanks. I wrote that and in the last 30 minutes started to feel like an ass, especially after I read about you selling your baseball collection. I was on my way back to delete what I wrote. I am glad to see you are smart enough to understand I am talking mostly about the tout business as a whole, not Jake individually. Anyway let me answer your questions about what has changed.

- Your tout stuff is coming through. The old Jake is gone. I admit you are probably right, as a tout you must focus on the positive but that is so overused that it turns many of us off. A good example is your record you mentioned above. Already you are saying the record is inaccurate AGAIN. Really? I already mentioned to you once go by everyday and check it to make sure it's right! It takes 5 seconds to do it and he keeps the official records of this site. A tout-like move would be what you did last week. Pretend not to check it every day and then wait until it's way off and then tell TRK you have a big unit difference (in your favor) and ask him to go through your season to catch his alleged mistakes. What ended up happening is TRK gave you the units instead of going back through the season looking for the errors. He's a busy man now and is here to assist but he did not have time for that so he gave you a break. At that time I even mentioned to you the importance of checking it every day. Hey he makes mistakes, so do we, but to go back one day or once in a while two days is no big deal. But since you got the credit last time now it looks like other records are off as well. I'm waiting for you to again tell him to go through your season plays and/or add some more units to your record. Not right Jake. In fariness those units he credited you could have very well been his mistake, however the point is check it every day. Only a tout would not check it and then say "you are wrong, go back through my plays and get it right". The old Jake knew immediately if his record was off, win or lose, and would have been hell bent on checking it for accuracy. Now more than ever it's imperative the records are correct, at least if you want accurate records.

- Attitude. In the old days you seemed much more humble, even with your great record in bases. I asked you questions myself and got your input and it was all handled very classy. I almost fell out of the chair when I found out you were 19. Now? Well let me show you a very small example I read a few minutes ago you wrote:

...Get used to it Dog. You get shit for every single loss, little acclaim for big nights....

While in fact that statement is true that is the business you have chosen like Frank would say. The bottom line is you have no idea how smart you will be 5 years from now. None! I can't write here what the difference will be and make you believe me. It happens to all of us! In 10 years from now you will look back and say, "man was I a dumbshit at 19". And then 5 years from that point and so on. The difference between a 40 year old and a 19 year old in this business is just astronomical. Your problem isn't so much that but you have stopped even coming across with the appearance you have anything to learn. Any idea or suggestions seem to be taken very poorly by you now and you usually lash out at who presents it. Sure some of them are idiots and do want you to do poorly, but if you treat everyone that way you turn off a whole lot of other decent people along the way. The old Jake would always be polite (even if the guy was a moron) and answer clearly and concisely. If you play on the HIGH ROAD in life you force others to join you if they want to talk to you.

Before I forget I want to say, Jake I appreciate the tone of this talk. I came on kind of harshly and you answered back in a respectful tone. In truth a tone I probably didn't deserve. And already I am feeling bad for jumping on you a little. Trust me that will win you more than you think. For me I have always liked you. Always respected your baseball plays as well, I was and still am the first to admit I can't hold Jake's jockstrap in bases. One thing that made it easy to admit that was the way you handled it. May not be fair in life but you are far less likely to get things when you demand it. I'm talking about acclaim, respect, honor, and all kinds of other stuff. Men will give it to you more easily in two situations.

One if you earn it. Secondly if you don't demand it.

To close I hope this doesn't come off like I am lecturing you. To be honest that long thread where a lot of people took shots at you bothered me. It really did. However looking back a lot of it was deserved. And worse your responses came off like "been there done that". The day you know it all is the day you quit learning. Believe it or not you won't learn shit in off-shore, little in the pick forums and nothing in the board room, but you can learn a hell of a lot here in the Rubber Room. About life. Lots of wise folks live down here. Bullshitters don't make it long down here and the reason is these guys know what it looks like, smells like and talks like. What I am saying is I don't know the tout business, won't pretend to say I do. But I do know people. I've met lots of people and folks will help you more when you make sure to let them know you don't know it all. I can only speak for me but guess which guy I would send my money to:

Hey guys this is Jake Thompson. I am 19 years old and up huge in all the sports. The Recordkeeper has my record wrong but I am winning in everything. I'm tired of you guys picking at me for losses and I would like to see more acclaim for me when I win. Trust me I know the way the world works and how to cap games better than anyone here. Shove that 19 year old crap up your ass. Now who needs my PayPal # again.........?

Or....

Hey guys this is Jake. After a good year in baseball I am now working my butt off on the other sorts. I don't have all the answers right now but no one is going to outwork me. Also I would love if anyone has any messages or tips for me. I think I'm on the right track but at 19 I know I have a lot to learn. I think we can make it work out for both the player and I as I will be easy to work with....

This is just a generic example but perhaps without meaning to you have taken a new tone Jake. No better advertising than a few guys down here chatting you up, won't get it the way you are going. Sorry for the long post. I was 19 once and guess what I knew it all myself. I love that Mark Twain quote. I left home at 14 and when I returned 7 years later I was astonished at how smart my dad had got when I was gone. Not the exact line but close enough. Understand?

Touts? I don't like them. But I do like you. If this post helps you in any sense of the word great. If not I understand, some things you must learn on your own. For you to ignore the poor nature I posted originally with and act like you wanted to hear what I had to say is a good start. I appreciate it. Either way let's start making some money. If I can ever assist you feel free to call upon me. Thanks for listening.

The comment about 19 year olds being a true dumbass in the world of sportsbetting wasn't directed to Jake. It is a mind set. You should approach the game/job/profession/hobby that way all the time. If you get fat and lazy along the way you will be passed by quickly. Just a comment that you need to be hungry out there. Always not only willing to learn, but actively seeking out and trying to learn. Anything short of that at 19 is a recipe for disaster.
