"I use a local guy". I love that one. I've heard that so much on various chat boards over the years, that now, whenever I hear that i just automatically ignore anything any guy who uses that line says from that point forward. It just paints you as a guy that uses bogus lines to post his plays. I'm not questioning whether there is some local offering such a number; just that it does all of us here no good to have you lay out a play based on a line nobody else can buy.
My local from time to time gives me bad numbers. I would never post them on any chat board, though. I'd never post a bad line some dumb local offered because nobody else on the board could buy it at that number. What positive service am I providing the board to brag about a line nobody else could obtain? So when my local gives me extra special lines, I never bother to post it. Doing so would paint me merely as some guy trying to pad his record with bogus lines.
A suggestion...post only real numbers from real public books that the rest of the board can obtain. If you can do better than that through your local, great....but please don't post them. Doing so has real effect on your record. Posting "bogus" lines from "locals" that are 1.5 points off the real number is worth the difference between winning and losing in maybe 5 games/100 or 5%. Using such lines could be the difference between you being a 54% winner overall on a season or a 49% loser overall for a season. If you don't care whether you have any credibility or whether others ever pay attention to you or your record based on bogus lines, then fine....post your "local" lines and enjoy the fact that for some of us, you have zero cred.
I'm not being critical here. What you did is pretty common. Just telling you why IMO it's not such a good idea. Congrats on your winner today. It would have been a W even at the real line of +1.
