(Edited Scientific Games press release)

Scientific Games Racing, a division of Scientific Games Corporation, has announced that it has reached an agreement to provide Betfair Games Limited with services and technologies to allow all Betfair account holders to view race and pool data and wager into North American pari-mutuel tote pools, with approval of relevant regulatory authorities.

The agreement could also enable bets into tote pools of European and other international racetracks.

SGR will provide access and connectivity through its Essen Data Center and International Gateway in Germany.

Primary services will include a central wagering system and related pari-mutuel networks. Additional services may include pools rights contracting and host track settlement services through its affiliate companies, Scientific Games B.V. Holland or Autotote Enterprises Inc., located in Connecticut, USA.

“Over the past several years, we have positioned our Essen Data Center as the foremost choice for international commingling, by establishing a flexible platform through which our customers worldwide can securely distribute their racing product and offer more options to their bettors,” said Brooks Pierce, president of Scientific Games Racing.

"Following the acquisition of TVG, Betfair has been looking to enhance its US racing product offering.” Said Betfair’s head of horse racing development, Steven Johnson. “We are delighted to link up with Scientific Games, which will give our customers access to the host track pools of a number of North American racetracks, bringing overseas money into the pools and giving a new revenue stream to the US racetracks. We will start offering this service this month, ahead of the Breeders Cup. This deal will now enable Betfair customers to bet into tote pools, not only in the US, but in the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa as well, with hopefully more jurisdictions to follow.”

Do you know why Canadian betfair customers are not allowed to bet into the US totes via betfair?

North American pool betting on Betfair

Hi coffeedrinker:

We have a deal with Woodbine. It's pretty involved and I can't go into much detail but I think you can get an idea now of why Woodbine would not want Canadians betting into the NA pools.

To be honest, why would you want to bet into the pools, the odds are way worse...I was at Pattison Stakes last saturday and was betting on iphone.betfair.com.

Way better than betting at hpi.

Also, if you want to, you can bet straight at Betfair (back, lay set your own odds then bet into the pools with Woodbine. So no big deal, really.

Thanks for the question,

Rob

Betfair rebates

Hi Mig:

Thanks for the question.

Do you mean rebates on TVG and pool betting or do you mean rebates on betfair.com?

If you mean rebates on betfair.com, the answer is no. The margins are so tiny, you can bet straight or bet against a horse or choose your own odds - stuff you cant do anywhere else that give you such an advantage at the track.

(Betfair may however lower commission for big players to 2%, right off of the bat)

If you like betting into the pools at the offshore books, they will give you rebates all day. Why not give away 8% when you are making 20%?

In my opinion, you will always be at a disadvantage.

Thanks,
Rob

I meant rebates for money bet by international customers into the US parimutuel pools. The press release made it sound like Betfair customers will, in addition to exchange wagering, be able to bet into the US racing pools with there betfair accounts. Maybe I read it wrong.
