USA all the way.

I've lived in both, and have a sneaking suspicion you've lived in neither, so how about having yourself a nice big cup of shut the fvck up?

This is neither a stat nor fact nor truth. Yes indeed, America overall has a weight problem. In fact, I have to admit that if the 21% figure you cite without source is correct, I'm suprised that it's so low. But aside from the obvious implications for the eye candy, this has nothing at all to do with quality of life in either country as far as I can tell.

I have no fat slob exterior. I did get rather chubby after my second wife and I split up, but I managed to shed 73 pounds and never looked back on it.

Don't all adults have a child inside them? The difference is in those who are in touch with it, and those who let it rule over them, as would be the case in point of people with nothing better to do than post one-liner insults of a country that there is no compelling reason to suspect that said person has ever visited or about which that person really knows much of anything. I won't name names here, such as Grantt, but those kinds of people are truly childish and sad.

Grantt,
Are you implying that fat people are worse people than thin? Healthier? - sure. Better - No.

Sorry Grantt, I do not see the need to stereotype fat people with false implications.

I posted a stat. P came back swearing and pissed at me, to which I say too fukin bad. Many Americans like to gloat they are the best at everything. I'm simply stating they are the worst at being fit compared to every other country on the planet. I didn't post it as an insult. It's just a fact. Christ you guys are overly sensitive when your on the wrong side of something. There is nothing to justify or apologize for. The U.S. has more obese people per capita than any other place on the planet. It's not good or flattering but hey that's part of your countries make up. Did you think you were all geniuses with perfect bodies, because that's the way many of you come across.

You're clearly insinuating that there is a correlation between the quality of a country on the number of fat people living in that country.

There are alot of things that America should improve upon, but getting rid of fat people is NOT on that list.

Grantt, why so sensitive? You didn't post just a stat; you posted a stat that you segued into one of your idiotic non sequitor insults of America. And since the logic simply did not follow for me (fat people=bad country to live in?) I thought I'd see whether or not you had ever spent any time -- or stepped foot in -- either of these countries you're comparing.

You apparently have not.

Like lander, I'm having a hard time understanding the correlation between overweight persons and the quality of life in a country. Can you explain this? If thin is the key to being the best lil' country on earth, does this mean we are all trailing behind Sierra Leone? Lots of thin folk there, real thin.

Also, and I'll have to look this up, but it would not suprise me if the U.S. als has the highest per-capita incidence of extremely fit people. The membership-based gym industry has been on a massive boom in the last ten years or so, and somebody has to be paying those bills. In your non-source-citing research regarding the ratios of fat Frenchmen to fat Americans did you come across any such data? Might be interesting.

But just to be clear here, it's not that you call Americans fatties that had me come take a dump in your thread -- I normally try to stay out of your threads, as they are typically hideous shit that does not merit a view count, let alone a reply. This particular one, the mystery link between obesity and living conditions, seemed worth comment, especially since it came from a person who seemingly has no clue whatsoever about living conditions in either of the examples given in the stat cited without source.

Now this beats all. Having spent some time painstakingly researching this issue (roughly two minutes and seventeen seconds in front of Google) it turns out that most people in the medical profession tend to think of obesity as a global problem, not an American one. True, America tips the scale (couldn't resist!) in the obesity rankings, but worldwide obesity increased 50% in the period from 1995 to 2000, while the U.S. saw a much less precipitous rise.

(Pay attention to this part, Grantt ...)

The World Health Organisation

But then, here's something that makes this other puzzle just start to eat away at the yummy grey goo in my skull like a zombie straight out of a Romero flick. Please see the chart below:

Note that Australia has a much higher incidence of obesity than France. If I am not mistaken this means that France is a much better place to live than Australia. Is this correct, Grantt? I am trying to emulate your reasearch here. We may be close to a breakthrough -- and I am more than happy to share credit with you once we publish.

Im not surprised that the US has a fatties problem.

Its about 20 years since I had an absolutely fantabulous monstrous roast beef submarine somewhere in the southern states, that cost a couple of bucks.
My mouth still waters when I think about it, and the amount of dirt cheap dee-licious grub that I shovelled down my neck.

You could buy raw oysters by the hundredweight for 15 dollars and huge bags of crawfish and just eat and eat and eat and eat...
(I think it was Louisianna.)

In France, the same sort of stuff cost a heck of a lot more money and you got a lot less as well.
(still tasty tho. But they are a bit keen on garlic IMO)
France was better for fresh stuff at open markets, but the country is set up for that kind of food delivery system, where you do your own preparation/cooking.

Whereas the US was better for access to good quality fast food.

Snails with a hint of garlic are damn tasty btw.

Food obviously is a factor but Americans in general exercise less than Europeans. Just think of the number of people one sees on the street in a large French city compared with a large American city.
You guys spend too much time in your cars! Get out and go for a walk, at least!

I do love escargot!
And I hate the French!
DeGaul said "There are no national allies, only national self interests" when he gave the US the boot in the late 50's. He was right!
What gets my ass is that the French are so sanctimonious and hypocritical in azpplying their present policies. Unlike DeGaul who had the fortitude to stand behind his words and not whine about the repercussions France may have suufered from his policies. I didn't like DeGaul, but I did respect him - and France at that time.
Just as the USA has gotten quite fat over the last 50 years, France has gotten quite hypocritical - their national motto should be "What about me!"

It comes down to the Americans portion size is a lot larger than the French. I always crack up at the American portion sizes when I'm there. I 98 year old woman will get a 2lb. burger with a pound of fries and a 32oz. drink when she orders. There are no exceptions. She takes one bite and it's thrown out. The next person is a 10 year old boy and he feels he needs to it it all so it doesn't go to waste. By the way P I have been to France 3 times and up and down both American coasts plus several other States.

Well, that's great; our coasts are generally more enjoyable and interesting than the interior of the country. I will point out that visiting, even repeatedly, is not the same as an extended living arrangement.

I know that it's pointless to argue things with you, since you seldom actually put forward any coherent arguments, but I sometimes get a wild hair and just can't leave things alone. So once again, I point out that your original premise in this thread was:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
7% of French obese 21% of Americans are

...

You tell me which is the better country to live in?
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Now again, check this chart I posted previously which shows obesity rates for various countries:

Image21.gif

Note that Australia has a much higher average incidence of obesity than France. By extension, using your above logic this means France is a much more desirable place to live than Australia. Agree or disagree?

Also, I can't help but notice that Oz' figures are not too far below that of the U.S. Does this mean that you're all fat, and that when some Australian moron posts silly shit on a forum board meant to insult and inflame, that he is just working through the frustration of being a Canberran Land Whale?

P you wrote "France is a much more desirable place to live than Australia"
I would gladly take either of these places over the U.S. You would have to be crazy not to.

"undisclosed in protest of the PATRIOT ACT " - What the hell is that all about?

Are you scared to tell everyone where you are from also?
