The Washington Capitals bring their red-hot play to the ice Tuesday while the Vancouver Canucks are holding down the fort at home against the Flyers until their star reinforcements arrive.

The Washington Capitals have their mojo working, winning three straight and eight of their last nine games heading into Tuesday. The Capitals have averaged four goals a night on their current three-game stretch, but it's not all coming from star sniper Alexander Ovechkin. Center Brooks Laich scored twice in Sunday's win over Toronto and winger Viktor Kozlov added to his season totals last week as well. Ovechkin remains Washington's biggest weapon. He has scored 11 goals in the past 10 games including five on this current streak.
The Buffalo Sabres felt Ovechkin's wrath last week in a 3-2 loss to the Capitals in which Washington's star scored the game-winning goal. While Ovechkin gave them fits in the third period, it was goaltender Jose Theodore that stymied the Sabres' attack. Buffalo has lost four of its last six games and has allowed an average of four goals against in those defeats. Buffalo almost let a win over the Islanders slip away Saturday. The Sabres allowed two goals in the final two minutes of the game but eventually won in a shootout to snap a three-game skid.
Philadelphia Flyers (2.14) at Vancouver Canucks (1.82) (Money line inc. OT)
The Philadelphia Flyers have mustered just one goal in the first two games of their massive six-game road trip. They scored once against Chicago on Friday and were shutout by Columbus on Saturday. Some of the blame can fall on the winter weather that delayed their travels in both cities, but much of the blame has to fall on the offense combining for just 38 shots in those showings. The Flyers do have injuries to offensive defensemen Matt Carle and Kimmo Timonen, who have been essential contributors.
The Canucks snapped a two-game skid with a win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. Goaltender Curtis Sanford posted his first shutout of the season, stopping just 18 shots from a struggling Senators offense. The Canucks got good news earlier this week with reports that star goaltender Roberto Luongo will begin practices and big-name acquisition Mats Sundin will also take the ice for workouts. While that gives a boost to the team's morale, it doesn't fix any of Vancouver's immediate problems - like taking over 20 minutes in penalties per game.
