After a brief holiday break the NHL is back with the Flyers facing the red-hot Blackhawks and the Red Wings heading to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Nashville to face the Predators.

Philadelphia Flyers (1.93) at Chicago Blackhawks (1.08) (Money line inc. OT)

The Philadelphia Flyers have had a nice long break but hope the time off doesn't cool down center Jeff Carter. Carter picked up his league-leading 26th goal of the season during the Flyers' 6-4 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, giving him seven goals in the past nine games. The extended break will be beneficial to goaltender Martin Biron, who has been battling the flu. He sat out Tuesday’s tilt and hasn't started since December 13, but could be back in the lineup tonight.

The Chicago Blackhawks have won seven straight games heading into Boxing Day and can tie a team record with a win over Philadelphia. The Blackhawks have allowed just 10 goals against during those seven victories. They are getting solid work from the boys on the blueline and the goaltending combo of Cristobal Huet and Nikolai Khabibulin. Chicago is a 1.08 home favorite for Friday.

Detroit Red Wings (1.06) at Nashville Predators(1.90) (Money line inc. OT)

The Detroit Red Wings are without starting goaltender Chris Osgood, but they haven’t missed a beat in his absence. The Red Wings have won three straight games in front of backup goaltender Ty Conklin, who has also had help from the league's top blueline corps. Center Pavel Datsyuk has also done his share to make Conklin feel at home. He's scored five goals in the past three games and has picked up 13 points in the last five games.

The Nashville Predators are in need of a spark on offense. They’ve mustered just 10 goals over their last seven games and have managed to win just two of those contests. The popgun attack on offense has sparked trade rumors involving many of the team's young blueline stars. The one bright spot for the Preds has been the play of goaltenders Dan Ellis and Pekka Rinne, who have had stellar performances spoiled by the lack of goal support.
