I have a high blood pressure which is under control and i also have a leaking mitral valve which has put me into constant afib. Until recently my heart rate has been pretty normal but now my resting heart rate is 95 to 115 beats per minute. My cardiologist wants to add another med {lanoxin} to get my heart rate down. I really dont want any more meds. So my question is do any of you know any way or product of lowering my heart rate so that i dont have to take the med?
thanks for any help

Why dont you have surgery to correct the mitral valve?

Beta-blockers can be used to lower the heart rate but there isnt really anything you can do since it seems to be related to the mitral valve. Try to relax and not stress about things can that can make it worse. Anxiety can also do it.

Doctor says i should wait since am only 46 and might need it again. Am starting to think is logic is wrong. I would rather feel great now and worry about the future when it happens. Who knows in 20 years they might have some star trek type of surgery.

Thanks for the reply:toast:

I had the exact same problem, many years ago. Doc put me on lanoxin. I was a heavy smoker and quit. Heart rate came down and no more lanoxin. So if you smoke--QUIT! Lanoxin didn't have any adverse effects that I recall, but stress --and cigs; caused the problem.

If your doctor doesn't know, do you really think a gambling forum will?
