Finally have to take the plunge with my limited knowledge and reformat this monster. I found the disc, but before i do this i know it will take a while. In doing this. will this affect my wireless setup and my dsl setup and all the settings. What i'm trying to say is will i have to go through that long process of talking to the techs and fixing my dsl etc.I need to makee sure i have the time before i start this process. Thanks

Why are you reformatting? Hardly standard procedure for anything other than catastrophic failure. Did you have a virus?

You will have to make a new connection on your reformatted drive, but it won't affect your router or dsl.

Post away if you need some help.

i used to reformat all of the time for various reasons but the answer to your question is YES and if you have had trouble in the past it is going to be hit or miss that you have trouble again.

typically what the techs walk you thru is adjusting the settings to your router in which case the router should be fine and thus your connection should be plug and play (once install the drivers).

if what the tech did was adjust something on your machine then that will be lost. depending on how long ago you got whatever equipment you are using there is a chance you will not have free 1-800 support.

Do you have a "restore" disk, or just the OS install disk? Also, is it Win XP?

If it's not a restore disk, you're going to run into a lot of issues with software drivers for your laptop hardware-they are much more specific than standard workstation stuff.

This is worth a read http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/showtopic21138.htm

I have both the restore and the reinstall disk. The only reson i'm doing this is because everything is getting slower and slower. Was told if i reformated everything would be a lot better. Have run Spybot and Ca and CCleaner and everything else to speed up and still a little slow. Takes forever to turn on or off. Just taking a chance this is it.

Just counted my bookmarks and there are 127. I may have to wait until i have about one month to do as that is about how long it would take me. Don't want to let Geeks on the Go do it. Don't trust them.

dude just bite the bullet and pull the trigger. initially it will suck but it will speed up your machine.

then once you do it uninstall everything you can and install as little as possible and manage your start up thru CCleaner.

No problem with the questions, buddy
If you reformat, among other things you will have to make a new connection to the Internet. In XP you can see your connections by going

Start
Contol Panel
Network Connections

After reformatting you will have to make a new connection to your wireless device.

If it is just a speed problem, I would try to trace down the cause before reformatting but that is just me.

If you have had an infection (virus, spyware) or if you have a corruption reformatting is the probably the way to go. If you do reformat, first back everything up before making any changes.

Thats a good idea. If I was anywhere in your area I would do it for a beer myself. Good Luck this weekend.
