I am getting a new laptop and several people have said to me that I should not get one with Vista as XP works much better. Is that true?

You better hurry. I'm having trouble finding the one i want with XP. Don't know if it is any more difficult to run, however i've always used XP and that is what i'm used to.I've heard if you keep up with the new patches and updates you won't have any trouble, but i'm not taking any chances. I was going to get the Vista and redo and put in xp but found out this would nulify the warranty.Had a new Lenovo stolen from my car so i'm going to get a backup this week.My older one has XP so im more used to it.There are a whole lot of guys in here with a ton of knowledge that can help you.

The new MSI wind that just came out last week comes loaded with XP. That should tell you something.

Vista might screw you out of using your older printer or Camera off of your computer like it did me.

I'd avoid Vista if at all possible. All it is is an absolute resource pig(not that XP isn't, but Vista is much worse).

Get a machine with XP & 2gb of RAM(memory) and it will be many times as fast as the same machine with 4gb of RAM and Vista.

p.s. I recently bought an HP desktop with XP Pro and 4gb of RAM. I thought that 4gb was total overkill, but hollllllyyyyyyy shiiiiiiiit is it smoking fast.

All this crap with forcing new operating systems on people is nothing more than a scam between Micro$oft and Intel. The older stuff works just fine, but doesn't help their bottom line.

Holy cow...now I realize why this 2004 Dell laptop I was given works fine, but WAY SLOW

256mb of RAM running XP

I'm going to guess your proscription would be to jack it to 2gb?

XP only reads/uses up to 3 gigs of ram. Gotta switch to Vista in order to take advantage of the full 4.
